Hi all. I bought a 1968 AMX with a 390 . It has an Edelbrock manifold that is stamped Edelbrock Torker AMC. I think the carb is a Carter spread bore. I want to replace with a Holley 4150 Ultra carb 650 CFM. Are there different base plate bolt patterns? Is the difference based on spread bore verses square bore? I think they make adapters but I really don't want to use one. Thanks for the help.

Yes they make adapters, But I don't think the torker amc will except a Carter spread bore carb without a adapter.JMO
I thought they were a square bore intake. So you shouldn't need a adapter to put the Holley carb on it .IMHO

Measure the distance between the bolts on the intake. If the rear bolts are farther apart it's a spreadbore. If they're the same distance in any direction it's a sq. bore.

 

The distance between the bolts is different and there is no spacer/adapter plate. When I look down the carb I can see small primaries and larger secondaries. So looks like I have a spread bore manifold. Thanks.

 

Standard Holley/Carter/Edelbrock squarebore carb pattern is 5-3/16" center-to-center of stud across x 5-5/8" center-to-center front to back. It is not equal all the way around.

The Torker should be squarebore pattern.
