the Q-jet in my monte was giving me trouble with vacume leaks & such, so I took it apart to plug the leaks.
Problem is, now it runs bad at part throttle & transition (surging, stumbling, ect.)
It has been tired for a while as there is leakage from wear around the throtle shafts, so I'm guessing a rebuild costs could be beter spent on a new carb?
I'm not looking for anything fancy, what is a decent street carb?
Can an edelbrock/holley/whatever get the same MPG as a q-jet?

I agree with the previous posts keep the q-jet. Take your old one into a skilled carb guy and have his rebuild it it won't cost you to much or even get a kid and do it yourself. The q-jet is hard beat for a street carb they delever exilent throttle responce great power and exeptional fuel economy..

Yeah, i had the carb rebuilt about 3 years ago by a local shop.
All they did was replace the stuff in the kit, no new throttle shaft bushings or anything. And they charged me WAY more than $125, but I was 18 at the time and didn't know any better.
Advise for anyone from Halifax or the Maritmes;
