Clear coat delaminating, can I stop it?

My daily driver developed a small spot on the top of the fender where the clear coat began to delaminate. I first noticed it Monday, it was about the size of a dime. Today (Thursday) there are several spots and they cover an area about 3 inches by 1 inch. You can clearly see the clear coat lifting from the paint below in blisters.

I know stripping to bare metal and repainting is the correct answer, but this paint is 10 year old metal flake and frankly I have neither the equipment or skills to match it.

I wondered if I color sanded the clear coat away and the top of the base with 1500 to 2000 grit sand paper and then re-cleared with a spray can, would it stop the spread of this problem, or am I wasting my time?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Wasting your time. I am willing to bet you will hit that metalflake when you take off the clear and discolor that area, you can't sand metallic and just clear over it. And even if that didin't cause a problem, a spray bomb of clear sprayed on top would look like sheet, probabaly no where the gloss of the clear on it, and wouldn't be durable. A spray bomb clear won't have activator, or uv protectors either as far as I know. I just save to either get it the panels that are bad, and hope they can match that metal flake, or get the whole thing painted. Thats my opinion.
