what about mack, freightliner, or IH? There was an old gas powered IH from 'nam wae era (had ID plates from the Air Force), a holley 4bbl, 4x2speed, and we called it fireball. I miss that truck. Crappy brakes, slow as hell, but it had a nice rumble to it.

As for new stuff, straightnose petes. Old stuff, well, most anything. Screamin diesels... jake brakes...

okay, I grew up with smokey and the bandit. I have brain damage from it.

Kenworth all the way, but I do like Peterbilts. However, an old buddy of mine has a T800. If it's not red, it's chrome. I can just smell the diesel. Man alive, that thing had some snort. I went for a ride right out of high school with him down to Davenport. I remember pulling out to the west of there loaded up this monster hill with one shot to make the green stop/go light at the top. All smoke, all the way behind us. We went back towards Seneca afterwards up Hwy 27 at like 70 mph empty. He said it'd do well past 90. So I'm hooked on Kenworths.

I spent eight years behind the wheel of a 77 three-axle, cabover 'Cornbinder' Transtar. The binder went to the shop for an in-frame and I got to drive a conventional rent-a-Pete for a few weeks till my tractor was done.
Yes I like 'em!

Old truckers never die, they just get their Peterbuilt. :D

Sorry guys. The Volvo VN beats them all, hands down. The KW is nothing but junk ever since moving to Mexico.
I am sick and tired of fixing leaks they should have taken care of in the factory. I am talking BRAND NEW units with 3,000 miles on them leaking water in through the visors, air horn, light grommetts.window and windshield trim.No room in them whatsoever.I can reach from the left seat to the r/t window crank, without stretching, and I am only 5' 6"!! Way too cramped inside.I hear nothing but complaints from the drivers who are in them also.At least KW has helped me with job security.
Navistar is decent as is a Pete, but the KW can belly flop for all I care.Damn JUNK truck!!!
end of rant........

Rough day??

BTW, at 5' 6", I'm almost 9" taller than you, Ron. Kinda sucks to be the last to know it's raining, ehh? J/K!

I had a bummer day, too. Woke up with a neck cramp, went to work for 10 hours, and was greeted by 13 picture windows that needed to be put into the frames. Average size, 7' by 10'. The worst one came later in the day, it was only 9 1/2' square. But, it was that Miami-Dade County hurricane resistant stuff. I might have just as well moved a sheet of glass 15' by 30'. Oh, and it's all manual, no vacuum lifts. Yet. Some dillweed in the office needs to approve that. I want one of those pencil pushers to come on down and give me a hand. The "genius" from my funny things heard at work was the only other help I could get who was strong enough, and then he started cussing about a sore shoulder. Betcha he'll be out a few days....

In a while, Chet.

Sorry, didn't mean to hyjack, and Ron, I'm only funnin' with ya.

trucks are trucks

I get to work on all types of trucks and for the most part they are all the same They all get their axles from rockwell or eaton, same with the brakes, transmisions, fifthwheels come from the same place like simplex or holland, engines you get a detroit cat or cummins. The suspensions are all similar too . Then you have mack they do everything different. As far as petes or KWs give me a kw anyday

I like KW but will agree some of the brand new units are junk, we had a BRAND NEW unit into my work to get a lift axle added, only had 100 miles on it. put the window down backed it out of the shop, went to put the window back up and it would not go.
