Donk wheels you just have to own! NOT!

At the Goodguys yesterday there were a number of "Donks" (Short for "You look like a Donkey driving it") . I have to say, a couple of them were JUNK with horrible paint jobs. But a couple were pretty clean cars, very nicely detailed.

But check out these wheels, not only do they have "spinners" or what ever they are called, but they have a SECOND "spinner". The "Rim" spins around as well as the "Spinner"! I didn't get very good videos of it so this is the best I can do, sorry. Between my crappy computer and my crappy video I am not sure if you can see it at all. But there are TWO different parts of the rim spinning, some times in different directions. I have to hand it to them, the little "ripples" in the outer rim and the highly polished chrome lend for some "Bling" like I have never seen. They look like Snoop Dogs grille with a big smile on him. :D

Takes all kinds....Guess it's still hotrodding?....I guess...........

I was watching the F-1 race a few weeks ago....seemed like a couple of the cars had the front wheels not turning, just the tires....like the wheel rim was riding on bearings or something.........

Like I said to one guy, it isn't any stupider than styles many of us have lived thru. Can we say Pastel Pink paint with pastel purple graffics!!!

I heard one guy calling them "Vegimatics" LOLOLOLOLOL

That is the automotive equivalent of walking up on a really hot looking chick from behind only to find out her face will make your wee wee crawl up inside & hide :pain:

{I guess that would work for woman too minus the wee wee part} ;)

Well said speedydeedy

Only slightly nauseated?!? They make me sick! LOL Around here they call them dubs and there are lots of places that will rent you the tires and wheels. I guess renting them is a good idea since the tires and wheels are worth more than most of the cars you see them on!

A couple of weeks ago I saw an 86' Olds that had the lift on it for what must have been a monster set of dubs but it was running regular wheels and rims. Funniest looking thing I've seen in a while. Looked like a stiff wind would blow it clean over! A small child could have ridden his trike under the thing! I guess he didn't make his rental payment on time and someone repossessed his wheels. LOL

I don't care one way or the other, I just stare with my chin dropped.

The thing that gets me is it is sort of like the baggy pants, what in the hell is the PURPOSE?

Do you know what I mean? In hotrodding, most every thing mod since the begining of hot rodding has had a purpose, to make it go faster. To make it go around a corner faster, go down the track faster, SOMETHING. Even top chopping was to make it more aerodynamic....to make it go faster. It evolved into ground scraping, bullet covered customs, but it's origin was SPEED.

I have to say to myself, it is no more stupid than the thousands of cars that were RUINED during the heyday of show cars in the sixties and seventies when "Zingers" and "Bathtub Buggy" were made.

How about those baggy pants, no stupider than SOME of the "Disco clothes". How about KISS?

So there are examples of some pretty stupid stuff that some of us who are knocking these wheels once did.

The problem I personally have with the baggy pants and the Donks, is where this stuff came from is largely Gang, and Rap influenced. And if you haven't had the pleasure (

) of listening to REAL street rap for a day or so, full of F this and F that and Ho this and Ho that and N this and N that and S this and S that you don't know what I am talking about.

That is the part I don't like, it represents (be damned what the particular man who is driving the thing, he may be a wonderful guy) something that is pulling America down the toilet.

And my grandmother thought Elvis was bad!

Yeah Elvis is BAD, Kiss is BAD, but you know what, it's rock 'n' roll.. And that's GOOD. Just go easy on the makeup please.

Now the salad shooter wheels you speak of...Crack wheels, donks, vegamatics whatever...Do you notice the OEM's are getting caught up in this epidemic also? The wheels keep getting bigger... bigger and uglier... uglier. (a lot like the typical American and the SUV's they drive)

I refuse to acknowledge and associate with the people that have the mindset that this looks 'good'.

PERIOD.. end of story.

Ok, compared to that gold bathtub thing the donk cars are actually quite tastefully done lol

Yea but the rolling bath tub actually took thought planning & {drum roll please} skill & talent!

Not lets smoke a big spliff drink a coupla Fowdy's & use out Gooberment check to rent some wheels.

AND have you ever seen how impossible these POS are as far a turn radius?

They turn as well as Slammed mini's go over speed bumps.

Being more performance minded I think they're funny. Like no one has ever heard of unsprung weight. Like Martinsr said though, there have been an awful lot of crazes through the years. Just think about lead sleds, not many of those were modified with speed in mind. Now, obviously they've not gone out of style, and i really hope that the "rollin' on DUB's" phase would usher itself out, but you get the point.

Rob, i totally agree about the skill part though, it takes no skill for someone to drop 10 grand a corner into tricked out rims. :nono: Just money...

Someone mentioned "renting" these wheels in this thread from what I remember (I am not going read the whole thing again) well, while I was in LA on vacation last month I drove past a place that did just that! I wanted to get a picture but the traffic sucked and I wanted to get the heck out of Dodge that evening. But no kidding "Rent a Rim" was the name of the place as I remember. :drunk:

LOL, that's what I call those style wheels, to me they look like Vegimatic attachments :D . A trend I see developing in the Dallas area are theme cars and they all have a candy theme. Some that I have seen are Skittles, and Reses(SP) Pieces. The cars are all 80ish big cars like Impalas and Buick's and are painted up like the candy packages, with nice paint jobs. They all have big bling bling wheels. The ones I have seen have packages of candy all along the dash and rear package area....oh and they are all brothers....go figure  .

What I want to know is where does one fall who would rent these wheels for his car? I mean, in comparison with other stupid things, where does this guy fall? I am thinking someone who would stick his hand in the toilet and grab his own turd and eat it, I am thinking that, I may be wrong but that is what I am thinking. :welcome:
