duralast starters are crap

ive went through 3 duralast starters from autozone in a month, i went today got my 34 dollars back and bought a made in america one from a local place for 55 dollars. i measured them a found a 1/16 of a difference from the bendex to the part that bolts to the motor, so now the new starter is quiet and is working great

any one else have same problem

well you gota remember sometimes, actually most of the time the words cheap and good do not go together :nono:

Did you measure and shim the Duralast? I've never had a problem with mine. Statistically they aren't that bad as far as failure rates and such go. They do much better than the Autolite brand.

IMO you should always have your original starter rebuilt buy a reputable alternator/starter shop (if rebuildable). I am fortunate enough to have one near me that does very good work.

I'll second that, I've never had great luck with the "chain store" rebuilds. We have several good independent shops in this area.
