Kind of like the trend of flames on everything with wheels, dump trucks, tow trucks, tricycles. Adds to the cool factor, must add about 200 horses also... :D

rofl! that thing looks like a pregnant roller skate! Check out those ultra high performance 3 lug wheels! Not only would I not be caught dead in it regardless, if you happen to be unlucky enough to get caught in it and wind up in a car wreck your dead anyways.

wow, it must be the mid 1970s all over again... crazy paint (they did good work on it, but why a egg on wheels? ), no performance, and it's a status symbol (the prius driver in the next lane is jealous).

slideshow!

I kinda like the vans (more performance oriented though...) and the hang 10 would be sweet with a hot 340.

...and guess what this is, and if it's factory...

wanna hear something funny? I wasn't even around in the 1970s... and I talk about it above like I lived though it.

The car itself seems to hold up well in a collision, but the way they bounce around and roll all over the place after impact would surely cause head/neck/back trama. I wouldnt get in one without a helmet and HANS device.

What I really dont understand is that they are rated at 33/41 MPG. Why would you buy one when there are multiple other choices from most of the major manufacturers that get close to the same mileage, and are larger, more comfortable, and dont roll around like a weeble when they get hit.

Absurd

That thing would be the Mercedes "SMART CAR", specifically the SMART FORTWO model. They are all over the place around here. They have a teeny 3 cyl diesel in the back. Not exactly a hotrod in terms of performance, and the little teeny engine reportedly results in a horrible heater when ol' man winter comes calling.

I have never driven one, but I recall seeing a roadtest where at a temperature around minus 20 C (somewhere around zero in "Foreign-Height") it couldn't keep the windshield clear.

and how useful are those? I mean, they're kinda 'cute' and stuff, but really a curiosity more than a practical car or enthusiast vehicle.

"Practical" and "enthusiast" are pretty subjective terms.

First off, "Practical" the car is EXTREMELY practical if you drove around a city with just yourself and one other person. It has met it's needs with flying colors and then some.

If you need to haul around 12 people all day long then a RAM3500 van is "practical" for you.

"Enthusiast", what makes an "enthusiast" vehicle more than a wildly customized car! This isn't a "I added a stripe so it didn't look like all the other Smart cars" kinda customizing. Who ever did the car is a customizer from the word go.

I don't know guys, if you don't like these cars for what ever reason then don't like it. But it sure as heck is a "practical and enthusiast" vehicle.

I like it for it being a smart car. The car gets great gas mileage and it good for city driving. Would be nice to look at for a car show. I have plans for one if I ever get the money for one. I looked into it and did some crazy drawling for a straight show car.

Metropolitians got over 40 MPG, seated 2 people comfterbly and altho a small trunk, it HAD a trunk.. and this was in a time that 20 MPG was great gas mialage.. so all in all, they were probably far more practical for some people than if they had a larger car.... my grandmother had a '56 Metro, red and white 2 tone hardtop, and even here in small town America. it was practical

the more correct comparision would be cars like the Isatta's, little Fiat's and the Vespa 400's..
