I usually use the high temp activator because I heard it can help with solvent pop, keeping the clear open longer to let the solvents out. Does this make sense as long as it's not to the extreme? I'm mainly talking about 85 degree activator when the temp is 70 to 80 degrees.

Yes mainly, slow should lay down nicer, more time allowed to flow, better gloss. Plus I like to have as much time as possible. Also will allow the paint to stay open longer for solvents to escape. Always better to go on the slow side for the temp as opposed to too fast, with one exception shooting a flattened finish, a slower reducer may make the resulting gloss level glossier then if a fast reducer were used.
