Hi
On my 1969 chevy P/U C20 I am trying to run new wires....pos & neg to the heater motor. I used a heater switch with a dial like on a dinning room light switch where you can turn it up or down. When i turned the switch on it worked perfect ....low and high speeds just like its suppose to. After about 15 seconds the switch begin to smoke. HELP Someone said the neg ground had to be grounded to the frame . Would that make a difference?

Your speed controller is not rated to handle the current required by the motor.
Heater motor speed is normally controlled by switching in resistors in series with the motor + wiring. For many years GM installed these resistors in the air duct to keep them from overheating.
See attached schematic for a typical setup.
