Ok, a suggestion to everyone, ALWAYS fight a ticket. Most of you guys remember my thread about my 60 in a 45 ticket, tagging 5 points to my record. I plead not guilty, and yesterday was my hearing. While I was in the court's waiting area the cop showed up and remembered me.

I think this guy is the coolest cop on planet after this.

He said flat out "so what do you want to do about this ticket, would you plead guilty to 9 over?" I said I'd rather try to fight it totally so I don't get points on my license. He said "hows your record?" I said flawless. The cop says "ok, if you plead guilty to 9 over I'll request a PBJ, (Probation Before Judgment) which means I won't get any points for the ticket unless I get another another mark on my record in the next 6 months. We decided all this before even walking into the court room. While we waited to get called into the court room we were just bsing about general stuff, cars, being a cop, how slow the people are that work at the court house. It was awesome. All I had to pay was a $70 fine and for the next 6 months not get any tickets and my record will remain perfect.

Good for you guy!

Whenever I get a ticket, I have always been guilty and apologized to the cop.
Paid my fine and go on.

About 10 years ago I got one and I had the cruise set at 60 in a 55 and officer pulled me over and said I was doing up-wards of 85. I was in center lane being passed as it was busy and Friday and i was just to tired to speed.

My attorney says I will handle it, I said no I will eat that cops lunch in court.
WELL when it was all said in done as a lawyer I had a fool for a client and almost ended up with weekly reporting probation for two years and 30 days in jail and $1200 in fines.
Never will I argue a ticket again!

Wow I'm impressed
Yet another person whos learnt to take responsibility for their actions. If you choose to speed (Which i'll admitt I tend to do) Then just be ready to pay the price. Insted of worrieing so much about how to get out of a problem how bout trying to never get in that problem in the first place.
Just a thought

He did take responsability for his infraction. He was offered the option of a court hearing, and took it. There's nothing wrong with that. Now he's further taking responsability for his ticket by being on probation for six months. Nothing wrong with that either. Just because GJ chose to take the option of having a hearing doesn't mean that he's irresponsible. He never denyed that he did wrong, he went down there to see what the legal system would do for him given that he has a clean record, and they decided to work with him. If they hadn't, he would have paid his ticket and taken responsability in another way. There's nothing wrong with the way GJ handled this-

Here in Michigan they've started a new way to gouge. When you get a ticket and pay the fines in local court, the Secretary of State then assesses an additional fine for two years. One guy got a DUI, or something similar, and even after all the local fines, fees, and restrictions, got "assessed" an additional $1000 per year by the state. I understand other offenses get lesser charges.

I'm pretty sane on the road, but don't get me started on this...

I think it depends where you live...

I grew up ion San Jose Ca. You dont fight tickets there. you dont win, even when you are right. all the judges and cops are friends. When I went to fight my ticket, the cop and judge talked 5 minutes about their families before "getting down to it" the judge asked the cop to go first. the asked me my version. in the middle of it, he says "son your taking too long" and I say "im not the one who spent 5 minutes talking about my daughters softball team".. 2 minutes later I was in my car heading home..dont have to tell you who won do I? Oh yeah they made me pay the FULL fine, plus a court fee... just smile, say YES SIR, sign the ticket and go to traffic school...

today I took a left turn behind this cavalier and I kept pace beside him (4 lane road) and then he gave it some gas, I hit it, owned him but there was a cop coming the opposite way down the road... 70 in a 45... yea I pulled down some sidestreets real quick.

never doing that again :nono:

I leanred the hardest easy way, or the easiest hard way.

Street racing is stupid. Don't do it.

it's a drivers responsibility fee, one of my buddies was speeding :nono: and got busted, now he has the fines.
