I lowered the front section of the seat bracket a 1/2 in. so I'll have a bit more room with my knees and the wheel. Anyone who has ever ridden in a stock Mustang knows that the stock seat placement SUCKS, so I hope this does the trick for me. Try to ignore my runs in the rubberizing compound I sprayed inside. THat stuff comes out of the can QUICK and THICK. I primed both sides and the floorpans (both) and used metal silicone to seal up my weld seams. Then sprayed with rubberizer from the can. Next up on the agenda is to lay down the insulation mat with adhesive. From there, carpet, pedals, wheel, dash, wiring, and I'll be on my way out the DOOR!!!! :pimp:

Thanks guys. I took the advice of a good friend and decided to use the rubber stuff on the inside and outside of the pans. I figured when I have the insulation and carpet in, I won't ever want to mess with it again. Since it had some time to dry, I want to spray some WD-40 in and see how it runs off. As long as liquid makes its way to the drain holes, I'm good to go.

Man this thing has taken me a heck of a lot longer than I thought. I figured it would be easy, but once I got the old pans out, there was just sooooooooo much surface rust to grind down and treat. This car is BARELY able to restore without taking it down to the frame.

Aint this Hobby fun?

Just think, some guys buy a car to take it all apart and rebuild it better than new?? I just want to make mine driveable...paint on the surfaces that need paint and chrome where it belongs. I really like the Rat Rods!

I started in early July. If you check out my album, I finished the cutting around 7/24 and started treating the frame rails. I figured it would be a good time to weld in some 1/4in steel bars to stiffen up the rusted areas inside the frame rails.

Remember, I only get to work on this thing on the weekends, so I average about 12 hrs a weekend wtih sat and sun. I still have to prime and rubberize the passenger side before I lay down the insulation. The mats are just sitting on my trunk waiting to be layed in. hopefully I can get everything back in and my fuel lines connected and try it out again before the snow comes.

Hi, Congratulations,it must feel great to be done with that floor, I've got that, and a cowl to replace on my 66. It looks like you did some work on the rear torque box; if so, can I ask what gauge steel you used?
Thanks, Fred

I used what was left of my toe-boards from the driver's and passenger's side. The original toe boards were still in pretty decent shape, not as much water could collect on them, so they weren't as rusted as the floor section. Whatever area I needed to replace of the toe board, I used the new toe board, but I had a LOT of scrap from both of them, so I just bent them to shape the rear torque boxes.

The inner-bottom section of the rear torque boxes were fine. Just grinded them and primed clean.

I'm moving on to the hood next for a functional scoop.

Arch welded floorpans

:welcome: It is a beautiful afternoon, birds are chirping, and there is only the faint site of white fluffy clouds cutting through the sunny blue sky. A rabbit begins to cross the road but stops dead in its tracks, for it feels a rumble in the ground; it's heart beating it doesnt know what to do. Then, out of no where, VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

Music blairing, and beastie boy looking glasses, the mooch races down through the country back roads, like a prisoner running from the blood hounds. Like a man with no care in the world, but the simple fact he has to pee like a race horse, he pours through the turns in his newly finished rat rod. Turning and burning for the speed and exhiliration of the G's!

Whammmmmm wum wum wum wum wum, whammmmmmm wum wum wum, wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa, the car says as the mooch down shifts and sits at a stop sign, trying to make a decisive decision on which way to turn, or just to plain stay straight. Finally with decision in mind, he nails it all the way; SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHH THUMP MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa. HOly snikies bat man, what just happened, mooch says to himself, almost in a drunken daze like state. For he has found himself at almost a 180 degree angle, for the poor mans seat bracket broke from the force of his deadly powerful monster machine, that had only been arch welded in a few spots. :nono:

Sorry mooch you knew I had too......

Everyone please welcome and congratulate my best friend Rob (Heloflyer007) for exposing my embarrassing excuse for welding.

Yea, I'm new to welding. Yes I only have a stick welder. Yes my welds look crappy because I use flux, not gas. No I did not run a continuous bead all the way around for fear of burning up my $80 budget price welder.

But at least I have a car that will run hard enough to break a seat bracket

So how's the transmission shopping comin' along there ol' buddy? :pimp:

:nono: Well shopping went well today... I found a guy way out in the country with a pretty sweet little shop.... He is self taught over 19 years, and is one of the most intelligent person I know about all aspects of the car. We talked for a while 2.5 hours to be exact, and I learned so much, at the same time getting a very good deal, and a ride of my life...

I was tossed in turned in a 95 gts with a bit of work done. we were 0-100 in less than two breaths, at the same time flying all over the road in a WELL controlled fish tail.. Multiple fish tails.... Later i was to find out this was just a small beans to cars he drives...

So needless to say i found a tranny with hardened gears, and rated at about 330ft/lbs of torque. For now that is good, until I upgrade to a 600 or 900... Just depends on the amount of websites I am able to supply people...

Yes Nick I know about the "suspension" and putting money into that area also.. Well already lowered to a settled 2 1/4 inches, my stabs are HUGE, and with a lil weight in the trunk, the dvds, and subs a pounding, NOT, how about relocated battery, with a submounted gas tank...

It is funny about our on going verbal battle of the 302 vs. 351... But I still hold, with the right mods, i might beat him... Well most likely this is going to turn into a battle of a life time, probably over the next 40 years. The 69 and 95, fully restored in the lobby of WeBo Design, not just the website designer/rebulder, but the car rebuilders also.... :smash: I wish I could spend more time reading all the threads in this website!!! It is full of soooooooooooo much knowledge, and best of all it revolves around the concept the internet was founded on, it is free... Rock on, and check the battle of the cars soon to come on www.the302351battle.com

Here's a quick update of what I did yesterday. Finally welded in the passenger side seat box, sealed, primed, and rubberized the WHOLE floor and tunnel. Started to install my insulation mat when I decided to throw in my pedals and steering column.

My throttle cable for the original 6 cyl was a different length than the one I 'found in a mercury' by about one inch, so I made good use of a coat hanger for the time being because I'm too lazy to buy a new one.

See how bad the torque box is around the frame?

It's a LOT brighter in here, that's for sure.

Here's a mean look at the bottom side of both pans behind the headers.

Hopefully this weekend, I'll take it out for a spin. Ok ok, more like a burn than a spin. :pimp:
