Do you see the line at the bottom of the post where it says "report this to the moderator"....Well then, report it! But don't bring attention to the troll's efforts??? Don't banter with the troll either! These guys want attention, and you just did what?? Gave him ATTENTION! As for reporting it to a moderator, they have no power. They can't delete the post. Nor can they ban the member. Jon, has said more than one time that he wanted us to start a thread if we felt a member was out of line. He wanted the community to form an opinion so we could deal with them. If you want, I can find the thread where he requested that method.

it really doesn't matter. we banned edgenet, we banned buttons, now we wanna get rid of autopart. it doesn't matter. he will just rejoin after awhile. let them have the dump. the dump doesn't show up in the daily or active thread searches. if someone wants to go slumming, let them do it there. if they do it else where, then the mods can move it to the dump. that's what it's there for. and as far as not caring for the content, don't read it. stay outta the dump.

the trolls really seem to hate me because i talk a lot of crap to them when they tell other members that they want to kill them and such.

but auto-fart hasn't done this. he just posts stupid crap like i do sometimes. we don't need to ban him, but just give him a warning about the content of his posts.
some of his posts are even a bit funny.
just my opinion.

Here we go again. This level of maturity, mentality and nonsense just never ends. It's actually encouraged. Strike 'em, ban 'em and they come right back. Even when a moderator takes direct attacks on their families, spouses and computer hacking, the offenders and their known associates/aliases come back and are welcomed. Talk about turn the other cheek...
Eliminate the Lounge from the "new post" menu just like the Dump has been. If someone wants to hang out in those areas, that's their choice, but not every member wants to see those posts when they go through the menu to see what the latest topics are.

Ignore Them

Whenever I get offended by a member's post, the first thing I do is click the "Profile" button under their post. Then I read up a little about them. If I'm somewhat impressed, I'll PM them and let them know I was offended in an attempt to salvage a decent communication/relationship with them. After all, everyone is entitled to some degree of mistake in their lives, even in posting.

But while on the profile page, I notice at the bottom I have two options. . .add user to buddy list. . . . add user to ignore list. Guess which one I click for the users I'm not too fond of?

Mom and Dad always told me if I don't have anything nice to say, shut up. Well that doesn't work for everyone, so at least on this board, you have the ability to shut them up yourself. Just add them to your ignore list and save us the drama of pinning up a "I think they should be kicked off" post.

PS. One of my best friends is gay, so is one of my co-workers. I don't have a problem with them coming to me for advice. I'm actually honored that they do. It lets me know I'm a good listener and friend.

 

You don't need my permission to post in the Lounge Vicky. I was just reiterating the suggested way to deal with the troll as given by Jon and people with a little more experience than you dealing with such matters. You are relatively new and apparently don't want to listen to the suggested resolve to our ongoing troll problem.....So be it, go ahead and play the trolls game, be my guest. I suggest you use appropriate actions dealing with offensive posts and action will be taken in time. By bringing attention to the troll it give's them the attention they crave, is that to hard for you to understand?

tm454, I confused as to why you are choosing to flame me, yet haven't even made a single comment in this thread regarding the topic I posted. If you want to start a thread regarding how we should deal with trolls in general, why not start a thread with that intent? I started this thread to discuss what the board thought about Auto-Part who has made several offensive posts. It feels as if you are trying to convince that you have the ultimate answer in dealing with trolls. I did not post in the troll's tread and try to start a debate with the troll.

What's interesting here is that the typical method of the troll is to take the post off topic and at the same time offend the members posting on the topic. Having read many of your posts, I know that you are a good member with good intentions. So why would you utilize their method in this thread and then flame me?

As I stated earlier in this thread, I was only doing what was recommended by Jon. Here are some earlier examples and comments to this effect by Jon:

Personally, I think you have given the trolls everything they could hope for. That is not to argue or fight with the trolls, but to get members arguing among themselves. Job well done. In the recent past prior to the "three strike rule", Jon has asked members to vote on removing offending members. The decision to remove a member from the board was left to the majority rule. Maybe this is what 32Vicky had in mind when he posted this topic?

I agree with the method of ignoring the trolls. Click on the "ignore this member" option under their profile if the member bothers you. (My ignore list just keeps growing)

Report the offending member/post to the moderators if it bothers you.

If the trolls have no one to argue with they fail.

The arguing between members just encourages the trolls...
