Is it ok to pick gouges?

Is it ok to pick at small gouges from the backside of the panel, or does someone have a better way of taking care of gouges.

Also at what point do most people say "this blemish is acceptable, I'll hit it with filler"? I have quite a few little gouges on my panels, some I don't even think can be fixed with a hammer and dolly, any suggestion on these?

thanks in advance.

If it is a crease or in an area hard to get to- I use a pick. If it is just a flat 'scrape' type gouge I use a flat hammer on back and dolly on front. If they are very minor a catalyzed spot-filler will take care of them, but at least try to make it as smooth as possible before any filler materials are used. If using a pick, or even hammer, don't lay into it too much- a little muscle goes a LONG way on body work!!! Good Luck!!
