after spending years and thousands of dollars on a project vehicle, when you look back, would you have done it again? im starting to think the answer is no. does anyone else notice that no matter how much you put into your vehicle, nobody sees it as anything more then a piece of **** for not being stock. you may get interest in your junk on the forums but in real life nobody gives a crap. it seems like iv devoted all this effort into a vehicle that is seen as nothing more then a turd... anyone else get the same feeling after a long time spent on a project vehicle...

Not in a million years. To begin with.... if you're building it for other people to be impressed, you're building it for the WRONG REASON !!!!!!!! Who gives a sh** what everyone else thinks.

Centerline

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

i agree with centerline...

my first T was a trophy hog.. many hours of preping for a show. sold it.. now my fingers had a chance to grow back... built my second T with reliable in mind, nice looking, but low in maintance.. i still get my share of awards but i don't go for them.. love to cruise, and don't like to polish.. well once a month anyway it gets a good cleaning.. and just a weekly wipe down... no more show cars..but bottom line is build what u WILL enjoy.. and yes i'd do it again..

I have found that it has always been worth it.

Over the years I have built many and considered only a very few actually finished. Made a little money when selling some and lost a little money when selling some. Making a profit never was my goal. Having the fastest or the best looking was also not a requirement. I always enjoyed the planning of the build, the search for the "right" parts, the actual 'build', making the pieces and parts that either I couldn't afford or find, the first firing of the engine was always the best. The first ride around the block. "Profiling" thru town looking at the reflection in store windows would always bring a smile in my heart.

While it is great if someone else admires your efforts, it really isn't more important than your personal satisfaction that thru all the busted knuckles and sweat and frustrations YOU built it. You may or may not have had some assistance from friends and family. You may even have had to resort to getting some of the work done by a professional. It still was your 'baby'.

ENJOY!!!

Do not build your car to please others,, If you do, you will be sorry you did.. Build what ''YOU'' like.. and set out to enjoy it... Most of the people that don't like your car Have it out for you, And not the car.. ;)

YOU CAN NEVER BUILD A CAR THAT ''EVERYONE WILL LIKE... :nono:
Stop trying too...You will enjoy the the hot rod world a little more.. Trust me.. ;)

And yes it is worth it..... :mwink: :mwink:

What do you expect, the biggest thrill of the great unwashed is the new tricks the cell phone can do. Most folks do not know how to entertain themselves, looking for something to do that to or for them. Just want to sit on the couch eat cheetos watch crap tv.

It sounds like you have forgot the reason you started messing with cars ....... and that is to drive, own and mess with. Building owning any modified, home built hotrod will always gives the owner something to do, hotrod entertainment if you like.

If wanting to have your car noticed, and by the way if the car is done right I will bet my next pay check it is noticed and appreciated. The rest do not worry look at what they are driving, beans and mini vans, you really care what they think?

I would much rather have someone come over and ask how I made some sort of modification or what the part was from, then dorks telling me how cool the car looks.

Its a hobby, no one cares about your hobby unless they are into it too.

Thats the way I like it, I'm not out to impress anyone...just having fun doing it. :welcome:

Deinitely worth it .

There is nothing original about my T-bucket , and I love it . I have been asked several times if I put it in car shows and I always reply that I built it for me . I have had two people criticize me for not having a Ford engine in it , but I don't care . I have recieved many times over more complements on it . I did put it in a little car show that was part of a fund raiser last weekend , but I only stayed for 1-1/2 hrs and won a top 20 trophy . The best part though was the friends I made .

I'm getting to the point where I could use a little less wrenchin and little more crusin.

I look at it this way though, wrenchin is like cheap therapy. Any other kind of therapy runs about $100/hr whether it be a therapist (they get about $100/hr), a bottle (got to figure in DWI costs there), strippers/hookers (got to figure in divorce costs there).

So if you figure your time is worth $20/hr and double that for parts and supplies, your way ahead!!!!

Ah if all your friends and the people that see your car care about is STOCK, stock, this and that... then they aren't hot rodders, nor does their opinion count anyways because most likely they are the ones who couldn't turn a wrench, paint a car, or tell the difference between a 1965 mustang and a 1976 mustang 2.

So I'd say yes it absolutely is worth it to me!

My Rat was built out of my head, not anyone elses.. no drawing of what I wanted, it was all in my head. the measurements, design.. everything... when I got the basic body built and skinned, I realised that, it looked too tall, and after looking at it good, I determined a 6" channel would do.. now looking at it some more, a slight chop might look good too. so who knows.. it's all my design... being it's my first, it's not perfect. and I had a neighbor looking at it 1 day, and noticed that the back cab wall is about 1/2" farther forward than the other side ( I knew this, but it's hardly visible unless you look real good at it ).. I just asked him if he could do better, and he went home..

Mr Bolt-on this isn't for you I hit the wrong quote, I couldn't agree more with you.

If you don't think so, you can always buy one that someone else built, then end up rebuilding it because, this isn't right or I don't like this. Then there is always the front end falls off because the guy that built it didn't know how to weld very good. If you buy one make sure you buy one from far away, if all around you know who built the car, it will always be called Bills car or Joe's car, never your car unless you change it, so now you are spending money on cars you didn't build.
I had my 1st car at 12, got it part way done and a guy came along and wanted to buy it. I sold it, I worked in a junk yard cutting up cars , and all the good ones I would set aside. I never get sick of working on them, and I don't really care about what others think of them, I do them my way, safe, but my way and everyone can go to h*** as far as I'm concerned. :D
If your in it to build one to make alot of money, You have to be fast and good, and most of all you have to like what your doing. If you are building one for you, if things are not going good walk away for a while, Rome wasn't built in a day. :pain:
But then again if you're not living on the edge, your taking up too much room.

i guess time has a lot to do with it, the guy that rebuilt my stang about 12 years ago spent 24k doing her up to a high specification, he was laid off at his work and had to sell the car at market price.I paid 18k for my baby, which was a bonus for me.I had to have car revalued last year for insurance purposes and the car is now valued at 50k.A huge increase which is a time thing i guess.I wish id bought 2 or 3 stangs now when i got my baby!
I also have a rare falcon which i will store away for 10 years very soon.I know it will double in value in 10 years.

It's only worth what someone will pay for it. This week it might be 50k next week it might be 20k. The market goes up and down like a yo-yo.
Watch the B-J auction, one year it's HEMI cars, The next mustangs, and the next Chevy. Cars are no where near what they where getting a few years ago. Right now cars have to be pretty nice to bring 50k, low mieage and not driven, and the right model, with the right motor,ETC. People have no money to put into toys, what you have to hope is your alive when they do. :pain:

Hell yes it's worth it. I build for me noone else. I have never entered my car in a show. I've been to plenty but I have no interest in a group of people telling me what they think of my car. Build for you on the next one and you will enjoy it more.

When I put my bucket in the show last Saturday , I just parked it and went around and visited the other guys and looked at their rides . I wasn't there to hear praises . LOL

its not that i built anything in hopes of other people liking it. i started with an old chevy truck and basically built my dream truck over the course of 3 years while daily driving it, iv got around $10,000 in it and it really is built from top to bottom, theres really nothing i haven't done, i even tough myself efi tuning to get this beast running. it was the ultimate daily driver for me with my a guy like myself who really is a gear head at heart but has sort of a ******* lifestyle because i could run down camaros and mustangs at the drag strip on the friday night test and tune(even on 35" tires) and go muding on the weekend and have the badest truck at the mud pit... and then struggle to pay for gas driving it to school and work throughout the week lol.

the thing is, if i spent all this time and effort and nobody ever noticed, that would be fine by me. but for people to point it out and actually talk down on my truck is just beyond belief. all my freinds just cop this smug attitude like im an idiot for wasting money on such a truck. to the point where nobody even wants to ride with me because of how rough the truck is. yea i built it for me to enjoy, but i cant really enjoy it anymore when everyone *****es at me for pulling up in their driveway becasue its too loud, or nobody will ride with me when i offer. so about a month ago i buy an old piece of trash dodge cummins for a cheap daily driver since i cant afford the gas anymore and i just cant stand everyone giving me **** for my truck anymore, and more people like the damn dodge. it sounds like a dump truck, goes slow as hell and looks dog ugly, i just got it as a reliable daily driver knowing id be really really downgrading and i get more compliments with it! it makes me sick.

i guess its pointless to care anymore, its just frustrating.
