Today was just one of them days. I had to get out of school for a bit and have the principal drive me to the eye DR. What really sucked is the reason for this is because in shop class (welding class) I was chipping away the slag to inspect my weld and WAM. If my eye would have been open I would have lost my vision in my left eye :( but instead I just got a really bad burn on my eye led

No. Don't sue the school. Chastise the school, have the teacher reprimanded but don't sue them.

Why not?

Because as any of the people here who work on their own vehicles should tell you, "You are responsible for your safety."

Just as you wouldn't dare dream to crawl under a car and yank out a transmission with the car held up by a rickety bumper jack, you shouldn't cut and weld without proper eye protection.

I'll concede that if you looked hard enough that you could find some way in which to make the school look negligent, you can do that in any situation.

I really am sorry that you got injured, and I am glad that your eyesight wasn't damaged. Hope you heal fast. In the meantime get one of those cheap eyepatches and run around telling all sorts of wild stories about what "Really Happened".

Damn that's a good outlook. Reminds me of that one about the burglar who sued the owners of the house he was breaking into after he fell from the skylight window and broke his leg. Probably not true, but the way today's justice system runs, there's no telling.

I say keep the blame where it belongs, with the ignorant.

MoocH

PS Sorry to hear about the eye. Hope it gets better soon.

Im sorry to hear you got hurt. I feel your pain man, only i didn't get a piece of slag in my eye. I too take a welding class and well to make a long story short two weeks ago i was MIG welding and just tacked a couple pieces on to the project but didn't use my welding hood. Well the next morning i went to the ER because i couldn't even open my eyes. They gave me two kinds of eye drops (one to numb my eyes and one for infection) and i stayed home for 3 days with sunglasses on and the curtains and the blinds shut in the house , i couldn't even open my eyes with sun glasses on cause the light hurt them so bad. So a bit of advice ALWAYS WEAR WELDING HOODS!!!!

I was in my fathers garage at the workbench and reached up to get something.I could´nt find it immediately so looked up,and at that moment dislodged a bottle of thinners.Being so familiar with the house I was able to turn and run into the kitchen. There I put my head under the cold water tap and held my eyelids open in turn to flush them.I still went to the hospital to have them cleaned.I never put that sort of thing up high or uncapped,
lesson learned.

Hard to believe with all of the insurance regulations that safety glasses were not required. When I took a welding class in school, no body was allowed in the shop area unless they had safety glasses and steel toe shoes on. If a student didn't have these items, they were not allowed to go into the shop and participation points were lost for that day.

I knew a guy in school that had a battery blow up in his face, hooked it up wrong or something. But the only part on his face that was hurt, was his eyes. Just so happen he had googles on when the accident happened.

sue'm anyway! haha. just kidding.
here at the core you always need safety everything. it's considered a job site. osha requires, now check this: that the manufacturers instructions be followed. period. when is the last time you saw any instructions that didn't start out with "wear safety glasses".
