I'm starting a model a build and am looking for some input on chassis/suspension.
Here is what I have:
-28 tudor pretty much the complete car in pretty decent shape (currently in pieces)
-Built LS3 (500hp at the crank, may add a 100-200hp shot of Nitrous) with 6L90 trans.
I want to build a solid Sunday cruiser that is IHRA legal to mid 10s. So good brakes, needs to have somewhat street friendly handling and put the power down nicely. Initially I'd like to channel the body over the frame around 3" and drop the suspension to ride with about 7" +/- from bottom of frame to the ground. If I chop the top of the body it will be after the car is running and on the road.
I'm not an experienced fabricator but I am fairly mechanically inclined, so any chassis welding will be done by someone professional.
I'm thinking about two basic chassis plans with price in mind both will likely get a roll bar installed which should help to stiffen the frame some. Here's whats rolling around my brain:
1. Put the body I have now on an already fabricated 27 T chassis from Spirit or Speedway. These are pretty affordable setups, the downside is solid front axle which isn't the end of the world...
2. Box in the model A chassis and install an ebay Mustang 2 IFS and rear 4 link kit. The downside here is the time and welding costs. The questions I have with this option are will it hold up to the power and what kind of strengthening will I need to do to the frame to make it hold up? The car comes with an older 2-3" dropped front axle that I know nothing about so I'm not sure I wanna use it at high speed.
Any input is appreciated.
