OK, I'm starting to get everything ready for a small flame paint job I need to do. The question I have is about the masking tapes. I know I should use 1/8" or 1/4" for the outlines but I remember reading someplace about the 3M tapes. Something like the green thinline was better than the blue or something like that. Can anybody help me out on this??

I like the blue the best.

Thanks folks

Thanks for the info folks. I went down to the paint shop today and picked up all the supplies I needed. Now in a couple of days I"ll post a couple of pics of my practices so you can see how that comes out.

Thanks again
David

Be careful too on which tape you use also. Iv been reading and noticing on my car that even the 3m (CHeap blue) tape leaves behind somewhat of a tape residue. Id go with what some told you and get the blue fine line plastic tape. Good luck THanks, Chris

Anything where a fine tape line is desired 3M's blue fine line tape is HARD to beat.
As for the green to old yellowish tape, the green has a better adhesive but leaves no residue and plus its more flexible

I've painted many flames , and as a matter of fact I just got home from doing some ghost flames on a 93 T-Bird , anyways , I've always used the Blue 3M fine line , up until I tried the 3M green thin masking tape , In my opinion it works waaay better , I never have a problem with the tight corners lifting anymore with the green , it handles the curves much better , and I have never had a residue problem with the green , I have had with the blue but I don't use that stuff anymore.
