Just did a filter and fluid change on the above transmission. Nothing found in the pan and the fluid was clean. Replaced filter and fluid with no change in performance. I suspect the converter is bad. Any ideas?

 

sorry to say time to pull the trans out forward sprag or forward plates just a guesss without test drive

 

WDk, sounds like the tranny needs to come out.

The converter is not your problem. If the converter was the problem the tranny would not function well in reverse.

As mentioned the tranny is probably broken in the forward sprag/friction area of the input drum. The over-run frictions are probably transfering most of the power and they are small frictions.

Would a pressure test be of any help? I don't even know if it has test ports but I do have the equipment to check pressures from my old days of working on forklifts.

 

the pressure port is 4 inches above the shift lever. and it is needed when adjusting TV cable tension, see www.700r4.com for detailed instructions

i can only recomend their transmissions, and the service is outstanding

 

forget the small stuff this trouble is inside trans,you can waste your time if you want to know what line pressure is but, money well spent remove trans send it out to a shop in your area

 

before i pulled the trans i would try lucos trans fluid. my 350 trans would not shift or move with a new stall converter and a freshly rebuilt trans, come to find out the valve body was stuck

 

tranmissions is what I do day in and day out you have inside trouble, since 78 thats been my job is to fix transmission trouble. you need a rebuild no easy fix here, sorry cant give you better news.
