I have a set of old double hump heads that do not have the holes bored for the alternator and the power steering pump. What is the best option for me ? To try to have them bored or have special brackets made?

i dont know what your using them for but if you can get the original exshaust manifolds the holes are there. those heads are mid 60s or earlier. there are also a few aftermarket companys that make brackets fof your conversion i cant remember the names right now but ive seen the adds in streetrodder and rod and custom magazines.good luck

You might pick up any streetrodder magazine and check out Billet Specialties brackets. They are also on the web. Alan Groves is another source for steel brackets, but I am not for sure they can be mounted without the use of the holes in the head. The Billet Specialties brackets mount off the water pump and the first two intake bolts on either head. They are polished billet aluminum and look great. They will allow for the alternator and A/C compressor. I use a Sanden compressor, don't know if a factory stock GM compressor will work or not.

What casting number are they? I had a pair of 461X( the X is only on the underside) heads on a 71' 350. They seemed to work real well for me. As for the brackets I didn't have a problem finding something that worked for me. For the alt. the bracket bolted to the water pump and intake I think. I can't remember about the power steering but it worked.

these heads are great... i got teh 462s on my 327 and they are awesome. wth the 2.02 valves man they are sweet. anyway the brackets are no problem. go to any local auto parts store look in the mr, gasket crap. tehy have a litte pice that is attached by the header bolts and then u use an f braket for the alternator. then u can use any p/s pump off of liek any old chevy pickup that mounted down low on the two holes near the balancer. then a/c is kinda a challenge. i fabbed up a brakcet cause i couldnt; afford the march performance bracket. but those ore ncie brackets that march has and they ave them ofr eveyrhting.
