Old Type-A transmission fluid

Hi folks. Haven't done anything with the fluids on my '62 Thunderbird yet except for checking the levels. The transmission dipstick is marked to use Type A fluid and so is the dipstick on the power steering pump. Today I just happened to find a dozen quart jugs of unopened Type-A transmission fluid that looks like it is from the 1970s at a thrift store. It's brand new but dusty. I am thinking about buying it all and changing the fluid, filter and pan gasket on my Crusie-o-matic with it. Am I correct in assuming that this stuff is still fine because it hasn't been opened?

Despite what some say, Dex Merc is actually satisfies the requirements of Type A.
At first, I replaced the fluid in my '51 Merc-o-matic with Type F and my transmission did not like it. Then I put in Dex Merc an it behaved exactly like it did with the Type A that the previous owner had replaced in '78.
I saved a screenshot of Ford literature stating that Dex Merc is ok. I'll have to dig it up. If I find it I'll post it.
