Pertronix VS Crane

I have a pertronix distributor, coil and wires in my 67 camaro (327) and the problem I'm having is that the pertronix distributor is taller and bigger than my original and my stock air cleaner rests on the ignition wires and causes the motor to misfire. I have to go back to my stock distributor and I want to convert it with either the pertronix
or the crane XR-i. Has anyone tried the crane unit ? I've used the pertronix before and never had any problems but the guy at the speed shop told me the crane has a rev limiter and is almost half the price. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Used the Crane unit in three installations as of now and other than a little "fitting" of the breaker plates to make them move properly, they work nicely. Crane does state that a little work may need to be done to fit the parts so expect this.
If you don't use a vacuum advance, fitting of the parts would not be necessary.
Crane does include a rev limiter.
I have not used a Pertronix unit.

i've used both and neither have yet to fail on me. The crane unit does have a built-in rev limiter, which is neat, but like boss68 said, there is a fitment issue you'll have to get past to install it into the stock distributor. the pertronix unit bolts right in (as does the pertronix II, which is the "twice as much" price). the pertronix I unit is about the same price as the crane, but without the rev limiter....

Perktronics vs crane

What the guys said about the two units are right. I have the Crane unit and what I like about it is that I have the old points and condenser in the trunk and if the Crane unit ever fails in nowhere land I can just reinstall the points and condenser and be on my way. You can't do that with the Perk unit.

Here in BC the insurance provider is really strict when they issue collector plates, if I were ever in an accident and I had anything non stock in appearance on the car they would void my coverage, I had to submit 10 photo's of the car when I applied for the plates so unfortunatley I have to stick with the original air cleaner.
