PPG OMNI vs Shopline, what's the real story?

I know both OMNI and Shopline are both PPG budget paint lines. I've shot with OMNI for over 10 years. Overall, I've had good luck with it for what it is. When I went to get some for my last project, I was told OMNI was being phased out and Shopline was the new OMNI. The Shopline was utter garbage. What took 3 coats in OMNI took NINE coats in Shopline. It was like colored water. My paint rep swears up and down they're the same paint but I don't buy it. I believe the hardeners and reducers may interchange but the paint itself is different. Anyone who has sprayed OMNI knows it has a very distinctive smell. Shopline does not. Does anybody know the real deal? I hate being lied to. The rep goes as far to claim Shopline is superior because only they can sell it since they are a Platinum distributor yet any old paint store can sell you OMNI.

I fully expect some folks have had good results with Shopline just as others may dislike OMNI. Neither is DCC or DBC. They're both budget paint lines for sure. I only offer my personal experience. The root of my question is "are they truly the same?" Maybe my paint rep is right or maybe there is more to the story. If they are the same, why carry two paint lines that are the same? BTW it seems OMNI isn't really being phased out despite what I was told.

I can still get omni here in MN. In fact just picked up a pint today. Never seen or tried shop line. They do have a line called omni plus that seems the same just seems to match some colors better.

I can't tell you the difference or the reasoning behind PPG having 2 different economy paint lines. However, I do know that a jobber has to be a "platinum" jobber to carry the shopline brand ( which I agree in most colors is junk). What is a platinum jobber? I think I recall it having to do with the amount of product sold annually or something but I may be wrong. The shopline plus is a decent paint in most colors and has more alternate/variances for matching. I have used it a few times on car lot stuff (which I try to avoid all together) but I will say that neither is DBC, no way, no how, not even close. If it is a metallic or pearl, I don't even attempt to use the cheaper lines. I have never had any luck with the cheaper lines in either (could be operator failure, but I don't have striping or modeling problems with DBC or Standox).
