Hey guys so I just installed my harmonic balancer on my 383 stroker and now I am lining up my pulleys to make sure they align. I am using the entire pulley system, even the same water pump off of the stock 1980 350 that came out of the car. Looking at the pics you can see that I got like a 3 inch gap between the alignment of my crank pulley and my water pump pulley!! :smash: :smash: I am possibly thinking that maybe the water pump pulley is on backwards in the pic?? If I flip it around it looks a lot closer to alignment but i can't remember which way it is supposed to go!! I also can't remember what the belt routing is either becuase the crank pulley has 2 valleys and I don't know which valleys drive what. If anyone could clear this up for me it would really help because I know something is wrong, just look at the pics!! Also is that the "Long Style" water pump I have??

trun the water pump pulley around .this might help
I had a water pump pulley backwards once,(but it was only out by about 1/8th inch) It ate two belts before I figured out what was going on  So I cant say too much. But does it look like it will still be misaligned when he does turn it around....or is it just me?

just now saw this pic - - - the WP pulley is definitely on backwards but I think you still have issues with the drive pully and WP pulley coming from different sources and not being compatible - - - don't know if you're running a fan or not but there is no way to bolt it on with this set up - - -

if this does turn out to be a joke then I may disappear and change my name - :mwink: :embarrass

LOL Reminds me of the time I started a rebuilt engine rigfht after install and was in the drivers seat cussing about no oil pressure, when someone walked up and asked what is leaking all over the ground under it. I was really flooring it too. I shut it off and glanced over at my tool cart and saw the oil filter. LOL

Man you guys are something else.. :nono:

How can you not see that this guy got the wrong crankshaft...it's too short on one end... .

Doesn't anyone see how easy this problem could be fixed and still use the short snout crankshaft, (which are better anyway...less twist)

A quick trip to the lathe to make a 3" thick lower pulley spacer would fix this right up...

Man I need to be everywhere, don't I...

BTW, I'm thinking about adding this discussion to the knowledge base, so it will be helpful to all

Lemme know.

That's ok, I left an intermediate oil pump shaft out once. On initial startup...
