Rack and Pinion Adjustment

After spending $$$on inner tie rods and boots, I realized the steering play is the rack and pinion gears.

The 1937 Plymouth is equipped with a Mustang II front end. It has a 2 bolt cap near the gear box. Is this where I can adjust the play?

rack adjustment

Unlike a Box, I think that once the gears are worn on a rack and pinion it can't be adjusted. The whole rack isn't sliding back and forth is it? Power or manual? Must have put many smiles on the car.

No doubt it is worn and should be replaced.

Check this video out. It's not in English, but you can see how the gentleman is adjusting tension and play in the rack. If yours is too far gone to adjust it needs to be replaced.
