Hi.
I'm going to rebuild a couple of classic fog lights to long range lights.
I don't need fog lamps, but they looks rather cool, so I want to keep them.
They are not in very good shape, so I don't ruin any value.
I know the prism glass probably are not the best for the long range effect, but I can live with that.
Ihave change the bult holder to accept standard H3 bulbs.
Should I remove the "cup" in fron of the bulb?

Hi staleg,

I am not sure of laws/common driving practices at night where you are at, but, you mentioned "long range lights."
I assume this means the lights will be "brights" for lighting up the road very bright only when there is no oncoming traffic, and that you will have another set of normal/dimmer headlights for when there is traffic so other cars are not blinded. If this is the case, I would remove the cups for the brightest light, especially with that prism glass.

If that is not the case, and these converted lights will be the only headlights on the vehicle, then I would keep the cups to be sure other drivers are not blinded. However, another option is drill a few small holes (about 3 mm diameter) in the cups to let more light through, but still not be too bright to blind other drivers.

Hope this helps.
