I'll tell you how ugly this one could be. I love doing engine swaps, but I wouldn't do this one. Will require donor front clip because shock towers will have to be removed. Car won't be worth anything when done. Ford guys wouldn't want it because it has a friggin' Chevy in it. Chevy guys wouldn't want it because the motor is in a friggin' Ford. I could find a lot better things to do with my time and money.

Sell the SBC to purchase get a Ford engine for the Falcon, or sell the Falcon and get a GM body for the SBC - whichever is easier for you or "floats your boat" more.

The SBC is wider than a 289/302 SBF and will require shock tower mods or their removal and replacement with a Mustang II front suspension to get it to fit. Oil pan and exhaust headers will be a problem also.

The TechInspector gave you a good heads-up on its value if you do the swap.

This same situation made a Chevrolet believer out of me back in the late sixties.

If you've got the time. Here's the true story..

Just out of the USA forces... Found a nice 65 Falcon Sprint. Loaded with HP goodies, 289, intake, 4-bbl, headders, 4-spd. But, motor is tired/abused.

Thought about a Chevy engine but, too much butchering of a very nice car.

I order up all the goodies for a Kick *** SBFord an get to work. Speed Shop, Machine shop, etc.

Meanwhile. Down the road. An aquaintence of mine buys a RAT 55 Chevy. Throws the internals of three SBC engines into a wash tub full of gasoline and cleans the parts up. While setting on a milk crate, smoking Camels.

He takes this assortment of parts, uses just the right "stuff" and assembles a Chevrolet 327 engine. Total cost= Gasket set =$20.+ 6 gals of gasoline = $1.80. Some old towels and some assembly goop.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch. I'm waiting for many $$$ in Aftermkt Ford parts. Most of which had to be "Special" ordered. While Chevy parts were in duplicate on the shelf..

Long story short... 55 Chevy is out on the street for weeks, terrorizing the natives.. I finally get the Ford together..

We "Touch em off" eeeearly one Saturday morning. All I see are 55 Chevy taillights!! CANT'T HAVE THAT!!!

ORDERED a COPO 396 Nova the following monday.. Nuther long story for another time..

A friend raced a '62 Falcon with a SBC years ago. He bought a rolled '66 Nova SS with the 350HP 327 in it and used the drivertain out of it. The Falcon had already been setup for the Bowtie but using Chevy II parts. It still had it's stock front suspension, the shock towers had been notched and reinforced and it had fender well headers. At that time someone was making swap mounts for this combo and it used the Chevy II oil pan. Don't know about the clutch linkage but with today's hydraulic setups or an AT that shouldn't be too difficult.

That said, if the Falcon is worth anything at all....... DON'T DO IT! Keep it all Ford. Sell or trade the Chevy engine and either build a period correct 289 (or 302 ) for it or find a wrecked Mustang GT 5.0 and swap that drivetrain in.

Thanks guys. moving on to the next pipe dream. I have to say more of a chevy guy myself. 53 54 55 chev early chevelle. But these little falcons have a look to them..... I think I am in love with the rear tire tucked up inside the quarter panel.. you know lowered so center of rim is close to the upper lip of the Quarter....Anyway rambling now. Thanks again

The Ford Small Block at 260 inches was factory option for the Falcon in 1964, so why not pursue the simple solution and drop a 302 in it. The 302 uses the same engine mounts as the 221, 260 and 289, even the 351. Just get an engine, tranny, and rear end out of a 1970's, 80's, or 90's Mustang.

You can build the engine to what ever level of meat eater it takes to blow off any 55 Chevy's you meet.

A 351 sits higher and wider do to the taller block casting. While bolting in the same way, that additional space requirement will cause you to have to modify the spring towers to get the exhaust into the engine room. If you need more inches the simpler route unless you're an accomplished welder would be to put a 347 kit into a 302.

Putting the small block in will simply take 1963, 64 Falcon or 1964-1967 Mustang parts all of which will bolt to your chassis. Makes life a lot less complicated.

'64-'65 Malibu/Chevelle is like that too. But yeah I grew up working on Chevy's..but I'm still partial towards 60's Fords/Mercurys. "Stacked" headlights are a turn-on for some reason...like the '65-'67 Comets, as well as mid-60's LeMans/GTOs. :D

But that's just for me...
