I got an 87 camaro with a carb'd 400sbc 462 heads ported aluminum radiator..501/501 cam th350 3.73 3200 stall converter.Im runnin factory dual fan set up but its not doin the job.I want to get an aftermarket fan setup.Would it be better to get one large electric fan thats pushes good cfm or two smaller fans....

I'm not a big proponent of electric fans, only in the case where space is limited would I even consider using one. Having said that, nothing will outperform a properly sized radiator, a close fitting fan shroud , and a quality clutch fan. Electric fans are stop gap measures IMHO. In cars like late model Vettes they are the only way to go.

I too run the black magic fan in my C10 with a stout 383. It handles the cooling duties just fine. One thing to consider is what ever elec fan you are running go with the flex-a-lite modulating fan controller as I did. Rather than just bang the fan on when needed it actually will soft start the fan up to about 60% speed then modulate it up to 100% speed based on the difference between the setpoint (dialed in with a small pot on the unit) and the actual temperature at the rad. It works real smooth and is easier on the fan motor. Also when you shut off the engine it will run the fan for 30 seconds and continue cooling the rad down. Another advantage of the electric fans is that they move allot more air at idle so when you are sitting in traffic on a hot day you get more effective cooling. Works for me :)

the mid 90's ford taurus and ford t-bird fan works very well. and can be had for cheap at your local junk yard. 2 speed fan but power up only one speed at a time.

if you did not drill steam holes in the 462 heads and also did not use a 400cid head gasket then that is the reason it is over heating.

If you're running the stock TPI dual fan setup and it's not doing the job, something else is wrong. These fans move enormous amounts of air, way more than a stock clutch fan would pull.

Btw, there is plenty of room for a mechanical fan in a 3rd gen camaro. 82-84's came with clutch fans stock.

I have a flex fan and shroud from my 83 if you're interested in trying something else. This setup kept my 350 right at 190 degrees even in South Florida heat. I upgraded to a dual fan setup so I no longer have a need for it.
