Long story -- my father built a 1948 chevy street rod ~20 years ago and I'm trying to get it back on the road, but I'm very green and know very little about what to do. He's suffered some memory loss and doesn't recall a lot of how he built it.
I had it running, but then the steering rack started pouring out fluid. I asked him about it and he said it came from a Mustang II. I took it out, found a Mustang II power rack on OReily, and traded it in. Couldn't look at it for a week, but when I did the new rack doesn't fit at all. The old mount points are 15.5" center to center and the new rack is 16".
Now the old one is long gone and I have no idea what part I really need. I tried a early 80's ford model rack (the guy said maybe a T-Bird?) and the mount points are good but the angle is all wrong and no way it'll fit either.
So can anyone help me figure out what to get? This is the best picture I have of the old rack. Is there even such a thing as a MustangII rack with a 15.5" mount?
