Water pump rotation question

Greetings all, new member and first time poster. Have a question about water pump rotation. I put a 91 model chev. TPI complete engine in a 57 chev truck. When I went to hook up the heater hoses, much to my surprise, no outlets or connections on the water pump. Went to the parts store and got early model water pump that had outlets, made two spacers to get the serp. belt pulleys lined back up and hooked everything back up. I noticed when I started the engine the water temp seems to come up faster then it used to. It hasn't overheated, but I haven't driven it very far yet. Have I created a problem with the early model waterpump and the serp. belt system? I don't have the orig. pump any more. Turned in for a core. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. djenn.

If I'm not mistaken GM made some late model pumps that went clockwise and some that went counter-clockwise. I know whenever we got a water pump for a GM product from Napa we always had to check the angle of the blades. Externally the pumps looked identical but you had to remove the cover plate on the back of the pump to check the direction the blades were facing inside the pump. And everyone says Ford does some weird stuff.

I GUESS IT WOULD ALL DEPEND ON WHETHER THE BELT CAME OFF THE CRANK TO THE WATER PUMP OR WHETHER THE BELT FIRST WENT UP TO A AC COMPRESSER AROUND AN IDLER ARM THEN UNDER THE PUMP OR OVER IT . IN MY CASE, RUNNING A BLOWER, AC COMPRESSOR, ALTERNATOR, PW STEER PUMP USING ONE BELT, THE BELT HAD TO CLEAR THE BLOWER DRIVE AND THEREFORE HAD TO BE ROUTED UNDER THE BLOWER DRIVE WHICH REQUIRED A CLOCKWISE ROTATING WATER PUMP.
I HAD A TPI ENGINE OUT OF AN '87 TRANS AM AND IF I REMEMBER RIGHT, THE PUMP HAD A COUNTER CLOCKWISE ROTATION.

 yeah water pump went out in my camaro yesterday. took it to a shop down the street. when the guy got the old pump off he used a scotchbrite disc and a scraper to clean the block but didnt deburr the new pump even after i told him to let me hit it with the disc before he put it on. once he got the pump on about 7:30 we tryed it and it pissed coolant all over the place. then i told him to just go ahead and pull it back off. nope he torqued it down some more and shreded the gasget so ill be waiting untill monday for my car.....and on a v belt car the pump turns counter-clockwise. if you upgraded to serpintine or if you got an early model pump you are spinning it the wrong way.
