Neighbor behind us had a party. Kinda loud, typical, nothing out of the norm. We always have a scanner on 24/7/ All of a sudden I hear our road name. 1 ambulance, another ambulance, 2 sheriffs, double stabbing. 4 people in a van being sought. Scanner comes on later, city police have 4 in custody. Wife is getting ready for work and I doze back off. I hear "chunka, chunka, chunka, chunka" It woke me back up. "WTH was that" She says she don't know. Scanner comes back on. Shots fire at the same address. 2 more sheriffs, and 2 State boys on the way. Victim found out in yard. This stuff has been going on since 2:30 this morning and another cruiser just rolled up. Scanner comes on again. One sheriff is at the Emergency Room. Gonna be a possible riot there if he can not keep some of the people calmed down. All of this in a town of about 14,000 that NOTHING ever goes on, an we live out in the country about 2 miles out. The fattest the paper ever gets around here is when someone wins the pig scrammble at the fair, or we win a football game. Out of boredom I thought I'd share what is happenin' this night.:boxing:

Drugs, sex, booze, fighting, killing, money (or lack of). They go hand in hand when unchecked. Small town, big town, big city or even out in the country, the same theme is there. This is a cancer that has spread through out our country and to cure, we have to eliminate the cause, not treat the symptoms.

Kevin lives about 1-2 miles outside of town. The neighbors are back a long lane behind him. I would say that their house and his house are about 600 feet apart. The neighbors have lived there every since dad has (or before) which has been about 14 years now. They are really nice people but I have a feeling that the boy has been running around with some of the "big-city" boys south of them. This is typical atmosphere for Springfield area...not smaller living like Urbana. Who knows.....maybe it'll make CNN, sometimes the smaller city news does.
At least they didn't go to dad's house in the middle of the night, there is a big empty, dark field between them.
Later,

Party crashers. The neighbor had a b-day party and invited friends. 4 guys crashed the party that were not invited. He thought they were with someone else. One of the party crashers pushed a female. They were told to leave and a fight ensued. In the midst of the fight one person got stabbed in the leg and another individual got stabbed in the shoulder. All four left and threatened to return. About a half an hour later they rolled back in, jumped out of the vehicle and proceeded to fight. The last one out fired a few shots into the air and when everyone scattered the last running got shot in the leg. One closeup shot was supposingly with bird-shot and the next two were .22 rounds. They piled in the van they were driving, ran a stop sign at the end of the road and ended up in a cornfield. Just enough time to slow them down. The city cops were notified and apprehended them a few minutes later. I guess when they were caught they had a .25, a .22, a shotgun, a sword, and some ninja throwing knives. I guess the driver of the van said he didn't know that the weapons were in the vehicle. Yet he drove to the next town after the stabbing so the others could get the weapons. When it first happened everyone around just figured it was people from the next town. 15 minutes apart and just as different as day and night. Our small town is about 14,000 or probably closer to 12,000 beings that a few businesses went out. 15 minutes away and the other town is probably 75,000+ One thing that worrys some involved is repercussions from the incident. 4 people were jailed. One worked around the one that was having a party. I guess time will tell. The neighbor will probably have to be looking over his shoulder for quite awhile because he works in the other town at night. He will probably be blamed for someones bud getting thrown in the slammer. Probably will be attempted murder charges brought on at least on because they left and came back with weapons. Never a dull moment around here. Nothing happens in years and within the last month my other neighbor got his house broken into and then a double stabbing and shooting lastnight.

Not at all fun when your looking down the barrel of a gun Buddy!

Those people were lucky the goofs with the guns and sward couldn't shoot straight. Or better yet they were lucky the idiots didn't have a semi or full auto 9mill laying around to spray the crowd with bullets. I hope the Cops throw the keys away when they lock them up to do their time! Stupid...STUPID people! I hope you were kidding about the fun......hot_rod_kid/hrk? I have had to deal with the results of a drunken shooting rampage and it isn't at all funny!

What ever happened to solving Your differences with fists?
Heck, I have been in a lot of fights too many to count, nobody ever got killed or even seriously injured. Sure there were black eyes and bloody noses. One classmate of mine even broke another classmates nose one night and I drove both of them home. Sure we all carried knives, but those were for cutting the twine on hay when we fed the cows, not for fighting. We all owned guns for hunting, not for fighting. They have a zero tolerance policy at the school now, I always had a knife on me in high school again it was not for fighting and we didn't think a thing about it. I guess I just do not understand why someone would be so quik to shoot someone, to me it seems kind of chicken****.

That is actually kind of sad. There have been guys that I could not stand until we fought it out. I hated one guy in elementary school. We got into it, I kicked his rear and we have been good friends ever since. If I had gotten a gun and shot him, he would have been dead and I would have been in trouble.

What gets me is the charges were felonious assault. Even with the one that did the dhooting. But the one that did the shooting had a slightly higher bail. $45,000. The other three had $15,000. I would think that when you stab someone, leave, go and grab some guns, and come back they should at least get the shooter for attempted murder. No one is going to say "get the guns and I'll shoot him in the leg"
