Im looking for a thin head gasket to bump up my compression - it'll be just a mild chevy 350 no more than 400HP - more like 350. I dont want to get new heads or pistons so im stuck with stock dish's and 76cc's - 8.5:1. I'd like to get it to 9:1. Could someone point me to a good gasket for this? how about this one - http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FPP-1094&N=115&autoview=sku - .015 thickness? How much will that bump it, and what about bore size? My bore is 4.000 but that gasket is for 4.100 - does it matter? Thanks

Well........the gasket you listed holds 3.2 cc's
a standard FPP 1094 which is .041 thick holds 9.1 cc's

SO you would be like milling almost 6 cc's from your heads ... just by going to the thin gasket ... ( or your heads being 70 cc's )

if you are going to the trouble of chaing head gaskets why don't you just cut your heads and end up with what ever c.r. you want.you can use gaskets for smaller engines to help lower c.r. but it won't get you as much.i have a 406 and sometimes use a 350 gasket because of the dia. of thegasket cylinders.a good hypereutectic will only cost you 170-180.00 and a cheap set about 60.00 less if you go to ebay stores.

Well dont have enuff money for new heads or even milling them plus their 882's so their thin castings and I dont think those are recomended for cutting. Hassle? How's it a hassle? heads have to come off anyways - make sure everythings ok under their, and its old old gaskets on their...this is a major major backyard budget build and I thought spends $40 or so to raise the compression a little bit would be worth it...

Also what about the bore size? 4.100 is that just how all gaskets are...seems like the .100 more would be more prone to blowin it or somthing couse it is exact 4.000in bore, wouldnt I want want that fits even closer to the bore?. idk just a thoguht

But anyhow...would that gasket work? says its "Use in some Sportsman drag race and flat top Oval Track catagories. Cannot use on aluminum block with liners." - is that still ok for street

The steel shim gaskets work fine, you can get them at any auto parts store. Installing the thinner gasket helps in two ways, increased compression and reduced squish clearance.
