What is this engine worth? Ford 557ci

A guy owed me some money on his dirt track motor before I would let it out the door, so he offered me his plow truck. It is a late 80's ford F-250 with 1 ton running gear and a 4 speed.

I am wondering what you think the motor is worth. The block is the stock 460 for that year I believe. But it was rebuilt about 8 years ago by a reputable shop in the area and has never had a problem since. But being a plow truck it probably only has 10,000 miles on it.

He has reciepts for all the work and I spoke to the original owner who verified it.

The motor was bored and stroked to a 557, apparently this includes a cast 4.5? stroke crank +.100 Custom JE Forged Pistons, forged rods, 429 interceptor heads (not sure if these are the DOVE C heads maybe someone could let me know), it has an aluminum dual plane intake and holley carb.

I am not sure of the cam but I assume it is a Hydraulic flat tappet. This motor was obviously built for torque and I am sure it has never seen more than 5,000 rpm.

The only problem I can see is that it has a small leak from the back of the motor (I will assume the worst and say rear main).

What do you guys think the engine would be worth in as it sits right now? How about if I yanked it and replaced all the gaskets/seals and maybe put in a new cam, lifters, and timing set?

I am a total newbie to the Fords but obviously I build racing and performance street chevy engines.

EDIT: Apparently a 4.5 stroke with a +.100 bore is actually a 570ci motor !!!!

Ford 557

A freind of mine built the exact same engine for his monster truck. He put a solid roller instead of hydraulic. The heads I beleive were cobra jets but not sure.Theres a good chance your heads are dove Cs, because the interceptors were hi perf. engines for police use.Unfortunately its still a used engine and probably only worth a fraction of what it cost to build. It all depends on how much he owes you.

I was thinking somewhere along those lines, I took a look at it during lunch, it has some SVO valve covers, a big weiand intake, and a holley vacuum secondary carb that looks like it has had some work done to it. It has an accel 300 ignition with a remote coil.

The truck has a nice memory tach, a pioneer stereo with 2 6x9's and a 6 disc changer. I think I will pull that out and sell it for 1200 bucks.

It also has a BOSS V plow which is worth quite a bit.

Ford v-8 engine

If the motor is set up for torque - pulling power then I suggest that you contact a broker for 'go fast boats' or a repair marine shop that fixes 'go fast boats'. These guys will pay top dollar for any rebuild able v-8 engine more then 400 cuin. Because they just don't make many any more.

I sold a dirty, filthy, greasy 455 olds engine--- kinda running--- I use this term loosely, for $1500 and they picked it up from my shop when I was in Fla. a few years ago. 454 Chevy blocks and parts are gold plated to these guys.

Thanks for the idea on the boats, I live on the great lakes and there is a market for them here as well. Here is a photo of the truck. Turns out it is an 1985 F250. We took it for a ride last night, I have never seen a 3/4 ton long box with a plow and 33's burn the tires like that before (both rears and 1 front)
