I just heard a story that made me sick. There was a demolation derby in a town about an hour away from here a couple months back. I guess every body was hanging out and a 56 chevy pulled up in show room conditon. The driver was a 17 year old kid and said he wanted to put the car in the derby. Everybody laughed thinking he was joking but he wasnt. A group of people offered him 6,000 for the car right there but he refuesed. So came time for he derby everyone went after him and just crushed the 56 chevy.. :drunk: :boxing:

Not to sound rude, but....That I think is a typical urban legend that circulates many shops and garages coast to coast.
I have heard this story several times...everytime something is slightly different. Either the age, town or car.
If you have ever been involved in any kind of Demolition Derby there are strict rules and regulations that you MUST follow for safety reasons. The car has to be 'prepped' a certain way to actually be safe to run in a derby. Its not some "smash 'em up" deal like most people think.
Not only that...did he knock all of the lights and glass out of the car? what about removing all of the trim....was he pre-registered? If you say he was 17...did he have a parent/guardian sign a waiver allowing someone under age run in such an event?:confused:Obviously not, since you said that it was in mint condition.
Do you see where I am coming from here?
Also...WHERE THE HELL DID A 17 YEAR OLD GET A SHOWROOM CONDITION 56 CHEVY AT?!:nono:

Can you hear me now?
Later,

Like stated- reeks of Urban Legend... like the ones around here that repeat every few years... "You see this guy's son went in the Vietnam War and had a showroom fresh '(insert car here...Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, etc...) then the kid got killed so the guy walls it up in his business '(insert business here- Grocery Store, TV store,etc...) with bricks... Then the old guy passes away and a new owner wonders what is behind the wall... He knocks a hole and low and behold a vintage auto still standing on it's perfectly inflated tires!! They throw in a new battery and a couple gallons of gas and it starts!!! They keys have been in it for all those years and with a little dust wiped off it looks factory fresh again...!!!!

I saw a school bus demolition derby the other day on TV. I think it was here in Ohio somewhere. That was neat! I had never seen a school bus demolition derby before!

It was interesting! :smash:

Xenia, Ohio (Kil Kare Raceway). I was there along with the wife, son and son's fiance' (as well as ESPN). They have School Bus figure 8 racing twice a year and the demo derby once a year. Always great fun.

The closest thing I saw to that was at a derby in Longview, Washington two or three years ago. It was a 56 (ish) Chrysler, the model slips my mind. Anyway, they basically broke the windows out, mounted their safety equipment and went for it. The stainless trim was all still on it and in very nice condition. I've got video to prove it!
