Hey guys, What do I need to do about my upper A arms hitting my front fenders on my 31 chevy coupe?

I had a 32 Plymouth PB coupe. When I put the Mustang II under it the only way out was to widen it 4 inches. I split the middle of the cross member added 4 inches and worked like a charm, set the a arms out 2 inches on each side. Had to build a perch for the frame to set on. I had to get rack extenders and Fairmont? tie rod ends to make the rack work but it was better than boxing the fenders which looks like ***. That was years ago, they may make a wider front end now.

M II fit

Some companies build suspensions for full fendered cars that have the upper arm mounted lower with a different crosmember. The geometry is not right, more decamber on hard turns, they might counteract that with some toe out VS ideal turn akerman, and I don't know about tire wear on those designs . Welder series will sell you individual pieces for a mustang II, YOu could keep the lower half of the stock crossmember, buy new blank pieces and refit the a arm lower and reset the Welder series spring top plate angle. set the lower a arm parallel, set the spindle at camber angle, then see where to mount the upper arm mount to clear your fender,

Welder series update.

Welder series now offers a kit for using mustang II pieces that DO NOT require bubbling the front fenders for Model A fords Check out ther website I don't know how it would fit your chevy but the frame widths are reviewed in their video.

That looks like a stock MII xmember. I had to widen mine 4 " , then they came out with better ones and I ripped it out and put in an aftermarket xmember. Don;t recall the brand. It is 4" wider and much stronger. Of course it don't sit as low as yours but the fenders clear. I did give the upper arms a haircut. Yuo can look at pic #42 in my photo album. Not a very good pic though. Fairmont tie rod ends are used.

measure 3 times cut twice

I thought you had already been welding parts. If you go to Welder Series you can check out their instructions for installing their kit. The same measurements and layout will work for a stock M II crosmember. you will probably want to use dropped spindles to get it down and clear the fenders ,The instructions are in their catalog. I make most of my parts but some of their stuff is already engineeried and not worth my time trying to re-invent the wheel.

Mr.Russ makes a good point... I would like to add this... The tighter the fit, The more the hump will show,, The longer the hump is the more you can make it flow into the fender...Don't just make a box to cover the hole like I see some do.. The fender has a lot of round to it... Make the patch with some round to it.. It will flow better and not look like a sore thumb.. Hope this makes sence... I don't remember is these fenders steel or fiber glass ??
