I have a 74 Nova SS with a 350. Would the pistons be dished or flat tops? Being the smog era guessing dished but seeing if anyone knows.

Should be dished . 8.1 or 8.5 to 1 compression . Just getting the engine bored to cleanup and putting the correct flat top pistons and a good valve job and all new bearings (cam brngs also) and freeze plugs will give you a great running engine for an everyday driver with a stock cam . I have done this before and it gives about a 50% torque increase over stock just going by the improved performance . If you just job out the machine work and do all the dis and re assembly yourself you should be able to do it all for less than $800.00

I'm looking to buy Summit Racing 64 cc Iron heads with 2.02 valves that sell for $615 a set. What kind of compression will i see from these heads using my stock pistons? The motor runs good as is and does not smoke so a rebuild is not necessary.

About 9.1 with a factory crown to deck clearance of .025 inch and a gasket of .025 inch.

I agree- dished if OEM.

A common piston was the 0.080", ~11cc dish volume, gives a CR of 8.5:1 w/a std. bore 350; 0.015" shim gasket; piston 0.025" in the hole; 76cc combustion chamber volume.
Wow cobalt , You are so much more up on this stuff than I am that I feel like a first grader sitting in on a senior class on physics . I always look for your posts 'cause I am sure I'll learn something .

That is kind of you, Big. I suspect that after just a bit of being back into it, much will come back to you as well as picking up more info from the place where you left off last time around.

But, thanks just the same.
