what will work?!?!

:D Does anyone know if a HEI distributor out of a Caddy 472/500 will work in a '62-8 429? I'm looking for a cheap/reliable electronic ignition swap for my buddy's hearse and was just wondering... Thanx! :p

yes it does....if thats a caddy hearse why are you sticking a ford 429 into it? i have two hearses a 64 and a 70 both caddillac s an s coachs....with mine in the 70 i have a 472 the 64 has the 500...and i thought i was the only one on this site that was into ded sleds lol kick butt man,

Cadillac had a 429, I don't know if the distributors are interchangeable or not though.

This series motor was introduced in 1963 as a 390. The next year (1964) the bore was changed to 4.13 inches which took it to 429cid. The compression was 10.5:1 and the motor was rated at 340hp. It was used in all Cadillacs from '64-'67. There were no optional engines during those years.

Yes Cadillac had a 390 too. :)

:D Ford 429, no. It's a Caddy motor. I'm pretty sure it's a '68 though. It's a bit of an odd ball motor. It uses a different style valve train and timing cover than the earlier 429s. A real PITA to find parts for too. I'm begining to wish we would have went the 472 route... Oh well. He6y gothrod, have you ever had to replace a windshield in one of your rides?
