Would an extra year in highschool be so bad?

I'm considering taking an extra year to finish highschool, just cuz I feel like it ya know? My question is should I? I know people stress getting school done on time but if I live to be 100 an extra year is only 1% of my life.... is it so bad? More time to have money for my car, more time to choose what I for sure want to do, etc. What do you guys think?

Stone,
If you feel you need it to better yourself then by all means stay for another year. Education is the name of the game and the better the education the more money you make out in the real world. I've done my job day in and day out for 22 years and according to all the new rule books I'm not qualified but a 22 year old with a degree is more qualified than me. Besides that...you'll be getting the competition out of the road for the new babes coming up. Stoned Pup..BMOC!!!

hey stoned,

i've gotta disagree with the others. unless you're considering not going to college, graduate on time (if you can). you need to get a head start in life if you want to kick some real *** later on.

i know it sounds tempting to delay, but when you're young, each year is a HUGE deal. you can't put the ball down for a second, or every one else will stomp all over you. it's a highly competitive race to be placed into a good career nowadays. discipline yourself to do well in school and then get into your field as quickly as you can. when you're half-way to thirty, you'll thank yourself.

high school is fun, but it's NOTHING like the fun you'll have in college. if you like to smoke now, wait til you meet up with the pros in college. they'll introduce you to things you thought only happened in a cheech n'chong movie.

good luck in what ever you decide, and don't count out military service if college is not an option right now.

What a dickhead comment. I mean really. The biggest problem I have with school work is it is pointless. I get no paycheque NOTHIN. I just get numbers on a piece of paper. It is stupid. As for me wasting everyones time. If only you knew.

I keep thinking money stuff later on, BUT i find more and more I don't care about posessions. Yeah having a nice car would be great, but so would a carefree life. I dunno.

stonedchihuahua - you sound real bored with life.. I've got some rare advice for you, so listen up good.

Lose the monkey, get a GED, and take some automotive tech. classes. Then finish building that 400, get it in the car and get some satisfaction out of following through with at least one goal in your life.. Then if you still feel froggy, get a job, buy a house, marry the G/F, buy a house and experience the rest of the story. If you hate it, it's real easy to get back to where you left off - simply quit trying once again.

This session's on me. Further consultation will cost you.

Hey Pup, I was just like you when I was in school.I can tell from reading your posts that you are a pretty intelligent guy, maybe just lacking a little motivation. I was the same way, straight A's would have been easy if I had just cared. Believe me when I tell you I wish I had taken it all more seriously. In todays world, you just about have to have a degree of some kind to be successful. Find something that interests you and go for it. The higher you start out your wage earning years (compensation wise)the sooner you can have a nice crib with a three car garage and a 50' by 90' shop to play around in. You can also retire earlier.(sweet) If college is not for you, find a specialty school like the School of Automotive Machinists. The important thing is to find something you like. Once you are successful you can afford the high dollar weed like that BC bud I keep hearing about. Good luck with whatever you do, but you're smart enough to go out and kick *** Besides you have the rest of your life to get a buzz. It does get better once you are out.

i would say finish highschool. i am 21 and would give my left nut to have finished highschool.
at the time, i didn't care about school and i was a stupid druggy. now i am trying to get my **** together and its killing me!
i dropped out of school when i was 17 and was still a freshman all because i didn't care, and now i do. i want to be something in life. i don,t want to look up when i'm 40 and say "oh ****, i hate my job now what do i do". i want to look up when 40 and say "i couldn't have done better".
this may sound stupid, but if you don't finish one day you will say the same thing, but it may be to late.

I must say this.. If you try to get your GED you will get if you put the effort into it. I've talked to the lady that runs the adult ed at my college and currently the test is a joke. She has had senior class editors of the highschool paper drop out of high school and take this test. But really man either a G.E.D. or a diploma backed up by a college degree is really the only way to go now. The diploma now days will get you a job at a fast food place but a 2 year degree can earn you twice the pay and a better job. I will admit I hated high school but college is fun. The stuff you can do and see is amazing. Just start college and do your generals since you need them anyways. If you like auto then go for that but also go for your assoc. in it since its one hour extra a day and that will earn you 2 dollars more over someone else. I've talked to auto teachers from the high school that are regretting just getting the cert. since they are now trying to take the class and its hard for them. Shoot I just gradurated from a 2 year college with a assoc in simulator repair and got a job at Lockheed Martin. I'll be earning almost 3 times a hour what I was getting paid at pizza hut and a friend got a auto job in Minnesota for almost the same amount. So finish High School quickly and get your *** to college. Its well worth it.

The biggest mistake I made was not finishing school. I've worked at more jobs than years working. I have a dilapitated van sitting outside just dieing for a 350 to be dropped in. But guess what? I live paycheck to paycheck. So I'm stuck with it the way it is. Every now and then I have to run to the pawn shop (not very pleasant). But I'm lucky, 'cause I have managed to smarten up and return to school.

I've signed up for Mechanical Engineering, and am happier than can be 'cause I don't have to end up like the guys where I work. They have kids now, a roof to maintain, those mouths do have to be fed, so for some of them it's almost impossible for them to go back. How would you feel when you're 50yrs old, knowing you're still only making $13 bucks an hour and knowing you can't provide a better life for those around you just cause "you didn't feel like it" at the time?

"Sorry son/daughter I can't help you with your college tuition" or "Yeah, those glasses should last you another couple of years dear, that Dr. doesn't know what he's talking about."

Do what you want to do with your life if it makes you happy. But be forwarned: If anyone sees you making a mistake with your life, if they care for human beings in general, will "rip through you like a monkee on a cupcake" to make sure you make a smart decision. Good Luck ;)

Right now I am writing a character sketch on some donk in a book. WHY DO I CARE? They say I need the basic skills, but I can write, it's legible. WTF???!

An education is the MOST important thing you will ever have. Now hear me out before you guys start talking about family being the most important...because if you have no education, how will you provide for a family???

Alot of people from the 50's, 60's and 70's will argue that they have done fine with being a school drop out and they are prosperous business people, but times are different now.

But don't think that an extra year of high school will help you decide what you wanna do...I am 30 years old, have 3 college degrees and still don't know what I wanna do....I have ideas but they are always changing....

By the way...building my stretched out 51 Ford has been put on hold for a little bit longer. I am trying to get started on building my house....

Stoned,
Even though what you think is useless does have a purpose. Maybe with not the same characters as the so-called dorks you are writing about. Maybe the skill is not in the legitability but in how well you present it on paper. I used to wonder why I would need the English classes I had to take because what would the nouns, pronouns, etc. do me later on in life working at a job. I now realize that someone that can get up in front of a group of people and hold their attention with his speach can get far in life. Most that do that are the higher ups in companies. Math...who needs it. As lond as I can add, subtract, multiply, divide. Me, and I never paid too much attention in school. I hated Geometry and would not even attempt Trig. But now I use it on a daily basis and have to keep up with it to hold my job.
