hello guys first of all this is a really nice website and thanks for any help in advance. i have a 1999 for expediton 2 wd 4.6.yesterday i change both upper control arms new shocks and sway bar end links.then i noticed that the nut that holds the pitman arm in place was loose.so i went i tighten it but it still had play.well i figured that the pitman arm was worn out and it needed replacement.so i went to the parts store and bought a new one.when i came home and try installing it it when into the gearbox splines ok.then i lightly tapped it with a hammer and it wont it. but not all the way.it still needs close to 1/4 of an inch to be be flush. wat can be cusing this ploblem? the old one goes in all the way.

i hape you guys understand and can help

thanks

If I'm understanding you correctly, the pittman isn't going all the way onto the steering box shaft. It shouldn't bottom out- the splines are tapered IIRC- this is so the nut will keep the two parts locked together, not loose like the old one was.

As long as the nut's threads are fully engaged you should be good to go.
