When you say trouble starting; can you please describe the symptoms?
It could be kicking back against the starter
Fuel delivery
lack of enough Spark
Timing
Faulty switch

Give us some more specific symptoms and a basic rundown of the components involved
Fuel Pump, Fuel line size, Holley carbs or Edelbrock? 1:1 throttle linkage or progressive?

What distributor and any CDI box being used? Locked out timing or is it using mechanical advance?

What Heads (or at least iron vs aluminum), Forged or Hypereutectic pistons? Any idea on camshaft? Compression ratio if known?

Is this a gear reduction starter, and are you running this like a typical car with the ignition switch triggering everything? Or do you have a divorced starter, where you spin the engine up and then separately fire the mixture?
What grade of pump gas, or something else?
If you made it this far??? PICTURES!!! :)
