Thank you for your help.. I am putting a 454 in a 1972 Corvette. The Corvette was ordered with a 454 but came with a 350.. with a measly 200 HP. He had the choice to return the car but loved everything else and so he kept it. The car came with a 454 hood. I just wonder if the suspension was installed for a 454. There isn't but about 200 lbs. difference in weight. This 454 is a 1988 with 400 HP.

I'm not familiar with the corvette front suspension. I can say that with my 3rd Gen nova, the only difference between the 6 cylinder, sbc and BBC cars from a suspension standpoint up front is the rate of the coil overs or coil springs. A 200 lbs. difference is going to be substantial as far as spring rate goes. If you're going to drop a big block in where a small block once lived, you will want to throw the few dollars on the new springs...short money in the scheme of what you're doing.

Can't imagine how the factory guys would assemble a 454 equipped chassis and hood without the 454, but in any case, if the springs are not adequate, the thing would likely hit the bump stops or whatever else is at the extreme+ compression position. I'd go at it like those springs are stock SBC.
