i moved my knock sensor from the pass side to above the oil filter. it's been 16 years but i believe there i had to enlarge and thread the hole.

 

Most anywhere on the block or even on the mount is suitable.

Im not currently using the side mounting boss's, so i'll tap one of them for this. Thanks In the mean time i used a street elbow to clock the sensor out of the way.

 

Having done many S10/15 conversions the knock sensor gets mounted to the adapter plate between the frame and engine mount. This is common not unique to me, there isn't much if any difference in sensing sensitivity mounted thusly. In your situation you could just take a piece of quarter inch plate shaped to pick up the engine mount bolts at the block and mount the sensor right there to the plate.

when GM changed one of the V6 engines from a aluminum intake to a plastic piece, the knock sensors had to change also, I guess due to some change in the harmonics of the engine assembly

 

Had the same problem with my engine and changed headers to get away from knock sensor. Have noticed the knock sensors on early LS engines are in the valley and same type as shown above. Later LS engines (2007) have very small knock sensors located on the side of the block. Wonder if this type could work with older systems.

 

Id love to use an LS sensor, but they are 2 wire vs my current 1 wire. Is one just a ground?
