burning up ignition modules, how many volts to coil?

Hi,
I think I have just burned up my second ignition module on my Mallory Unilite distributor. I am also using a Mallory promaster coil (model #29440) but not an in line ballast resistor. Should I be?

The car ran, shut it down and 2 hours later no spark to the plugs again. Coil has 11.7 volts going to it wired off of the ignition switch.

Any help would be appreciated.

You definitely need the ballast resistor with the Mallory coil.

Is the Unilite module connected to the coil ignition wiring?
Are you running solid core spark plug wires?

I will get a ballast resistor. Unilite is wired to the Mallory promaster coil via the 3 wire pigtail. Not sure on the wires? Will they say on them?

Do'in the alt swap was possibly the best thing I have done for my car. It's super simple....... basicly jumping the existing wires coming off the external regulator and adding a wire from the radiator support splice/stud back across the radiator support to the external reg area.

The best thing is no more dim lights!
