cam removal on 289 engine.

ok, im attempting to remove the camshaft from my 289 engine and i have a few questions. Ive got all the pushrods and lifters out ive got the cam plate off but for the life of me i cant pull the camshaft out..is there a hidden bolt im missing? thanks.

Remove the distributor.

i usually loose thread the timing gear on the cam and use it as leverage to pull out the cam. just be careful to not damage the cam bearings by pulling the cam out as straight as possible, unless you plan on changing those as well.

sounds like you did everything. like was said watch the bearings. that happen to me once , tryed to change cam and ended with complete rebuild.
