333882 heads

Perhaps your heads will last longer than mine. I am the dissapointed owner of the famous 333822 majorly cracked head. Mine cracked just inside the recessed area ouside of the valve instead of between the valves seats. That is my experience only. Now I am looking for a different set of heads myself.I dont really know anything about the vortex but from what I,ve read they are the way to go

I have a set of 882 heads from an L-82. Theyve got .202/.160 valves, screw in studs and guide plates.

I wouldnt mind porting them and using them on somethig like a 383 or a 400. It would be fairly easy to get a decent compression ratio from something like that. But for a 350 those 76cc chambers are just too weak IMO. The chamber "shape" does nothing for performance either. It sucks. But with some creative porting you could build a bit of swirl into the intake to help some.

Lots of better heads out there though. Personally, I use my 882's (even with all the HP perks) as anvils for body work and put a set of ported .194 humper-pumpers on the 327.. :D No doubt, I gained a good 30-40 HP by doing it too.

The 624 also falls into the catagory of one of the worst SBC heads ever made. Pass on them, unless what you have is totally worn out, you can verify that theses are indeed "good to go", and you just need to get an engine running in a daily driver. If these haven't been rebuilt sometime recently in the past they are just boat anchors.

heads

hey nova , yeh just after i posted , i was wondering around and found several comments about them , i will derfinately pass on those piece of sh#ts , indeed boat anchors, must appreciated the comments,,,,,,,,,,,,but on another note what year of vortecs are the better years for heads, and will they work with my stock 350 motor,,,,,,,,,, block number 14010207 from what i can find this is from 1980-1985 but can pin point exactly what year for sure, thanks again hot rodders i do appreciate all the help,,,,,,

The good Vortecs are from 1996-2000, last three digits of the casting #'s are 062 or 906. They will work fine on your '81-85 350 and improve power but will require you to use a Vortec bolt pattern intake, self aligning rockers, and centerbolt valvecovers.

Beware of folks passing off any old centerbolt valvecover heads as "vortecs", Chevy was using the Vortec name for several years before the actual good heads were introduced. Verify the casting #'s before you buy.

I have a set of Chevy heads with a casting number of 333882, with 1.94 Heads, i am hoping to make 350-375HP with them. the engine is a 350 Steel crank, 4 bolt main, 9.5:1 compression ratio with these heads, comp cams .480/.480 lift with 230/230 Duration at 0.50, 600cfm edelbrock carb, Performer RPM intake, headers with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers dumped befor rear end, and 1.5 ratio roller rockers. i just want to know if these heads will be good for my engine before i pay to have P.E.D. Rebuild the for $450?

also give me your general opinion of these heads.

thank you.
i have a set of 882 heads to shaved comp valves and spring put them on my buds stock 350 it gave it some some horses i think there a good head if u do some work to them.....they have to be if we tore rear end out cause we lit tires up all the way across intersection

i have a set of 882 on my 383 and i run a 548 lift cam with 500lbs springs and the compression is 12:1 the engine makes 620 with these heads and there is about 7000 miles on the engine but the really strange thing is that these heads are steel and i got a 204 valve to fit in them so i don't know if i got a set of heads that were goofed up at factory with the casting or what but the car runs great and i never ha a problem from them

I currently have a 350 sporting some 882's i had layn around, my 350 is 60 over with flat top pistons, with a 280/280 480''/480'' lift @ 230 comp mag bumpstick, with a cast crank and X rods and the 882's milled down to have 64cc combustion chamber and springs and valves to push my motor to 10.0:1. Yeah i have $480 bucks in them, and yeah i couldv bought some vortec heads, but if you think about it the vortec has 170cc intake runners and the 882's has 160cc intakes, if you do the work on them they would be so close you wouldnt feel the differents! i can say you can get 400hp with this set up with vortec heads, so my 882's are close so i'm not scared to say that i'm not to far away from 400hp with my $480 882's!
I use 882 heads to 10.33CR a really small lunati cam nr 01003LK lifter kit nr.

But im pretty found of thees heads of course Ive ported them and have a 3600lbs heavy car with me in it and it will do a 13.5sec et 1/4 her is a 1/8 mile Film clip 8.6 is the best 1/8 run

456 crank hp is Wat my heads can support according to a Flowbench!
