does compression effect idle sound?

Hey, this is probably a dumb question, but does compression ratio effect the way an engine sounds at idle? For example, if an engine had a cam with a mild lope at idle with a large chambered head, would it sound different if the heads were swapped with smaller chambered heads, therefore increasing compression ratio?

Not a dumb question, just basic truth. Stand by the water box and listen to two different cars with open headers. One is a Stock class car with maybe 10.0:1 and the other is a Super Gas car with maybe 14.0:1. Even with the same size motor and same headers, I can guarantee you can tell the difference. What is really interesting is the progress of the Junior Dragsters. This class started off with bone-stock 5hp Briggs and Stratton motors back in the early 90's. I was on the starting line last week when two of the 330' cars were heating up in the water box and I had to stick my fingers in my ears. L-O-U-D!!!! Still a 13 cubic inch flathead just like they all started with, but the progression of engineering in the class is phenomenal.
