;) I have a '40 Chev convertible and want to realign the doors. Is there any info. where I can get an idea as to where to remove or add shims? The car has been placed on a new frame and that is where I'm having the problem. The drivers door looks to be sagging and is riding on the dovetails. The hinges are solid and aren't worn out. Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to shim the BODY on the frame! I don't know that particular car but this was very common with early V8 Ford roadsters, the sill plate is not very strong and shimming the cowl to bring up the back of the doors is the norm. Think about it, they fit before the frame swap.........the hinges didn't somehow change, it is the fit of the body to the frame that changed.

Now, can you fix it if it's just minor thru the hinges, sure. But that may not be what you should be doing, that I can't tell from this side of the computer.

I would think it would, basically you need to add shims (washers can be used and probably should be used) on any mount that would raise the rear of the cowl tilting it forward. Or of course this could be accomplished by dropping the front of the cowl if it has washers that is keeping it up higher now.

:D Will check and see what there is now and take a stab at it. What this means is to jack the body up to lift it off the mounts to insert the shims, on the one side. However, I have to jack it up on the floor. I think the floor is weaker than the cowl and the floor might not be strong enough to lift the whole body on the one side. Any comment?
