first you have to know if the springs are shot, the best way is to get springs arched the way you want it to raise it to the height you are after.

sometimes you can add a leaf. Not sure on a 2nd gen Nova though; but I THINK there was a heavy duty rear spring pack with 5(?) leaves?

 

MARTINSR has the correct answer for you. I used to laugh my butt off seeing cars with long shackles and the spring bent on a reverse curve. HAHAHAHAHAHA, what a hoot.

The SS Novas had multi leaf rear springs. Plus there was a heavy duty option available with the multi springs.
