Fuel injection system advice for 454

I have a 454 big block roller cam bored over 30. I was wondering what would be a good/the best fuel injection system I could get for it. Also I would love to know what are the perks to having fuel injection versus having a carburetor . I can give you more details on the engine if you need them. Thanks 🙂

It is going into a 1986 c10 with Calvert traction bars. The engine specs are at the bottom I currently have the engine on a demon carburator. I just want to make the right the decision . Speed is what I’m going for

Ok, that list doesn't give much idea of the characteristics of the engine...we need cam specs, cylinder head specs, and intake manifold type. Header dimensions would help too.

From a pure power standpoint, you won't pick up anything on a naturally aspirated engine by switching to electronic fuel injection, if that is your goal.

Basically all the injection would help with is cold start manners, low and mid range street rpm drivability, and possibly fuel mileage a small amount.

The Demons are good carbs, generally not much can be improved upon if it is working, adjusted, and tuned correctly.

If you were talking about old fashioned mechanical injection, either Flying Toilet type or ram stack injection, it might improve wide open throttle power a bit, but will be worse than the carb at any other situation that isn't wide open throttle...worse idle, awful at street cruise, terrible at fuel mileage.

Ok you have a few different types of fuel injection. Giving basic terms you can Google the differences.

You have the flying toilet type where your just spraying fuel through a jet. Good for wot but usually rich everywhere else.

There is throttle body injection which injects fuel in pulses into the intake to atomize. Good for general drivablity but you can have one cylinder richer then the other.

You then have Central body injection which uses a injection plate or single injectior with more equal length runners for a more even fuel ratio. Better timing control then tbi.

Then you have direct port which injects right into the cylinder allowing you to adjust the ratio per cylinder further improving ratio. More sensors for better control.

Then you have coil on plug direct port injection which allows you to adjust the timing to milliseconds for varying conditions. Most sensors most control.

If you are using forced induction that last one is the best.

For general driving TBI is fine. It uses very basic sensors and allows you a cheap improvment from carb.

Multiport is the best bet if you're going to be doing much driving. But as you can see in the link to Summit, there isn't a cheap, multiport, BBC option. All of the option in the listing I attached are going to require fuel rails, fuel pressure regulator, injectors and a throttle body of some nature. And then of course an ECM to run it.

The downside of all things BB - mucho $$$$$. These start making the aftermarket TBI systems look better.

Direct port is expensive. But when you look at all the add on "control boxes" and such you will need to get the level of control it provides the difference in cost is not much.

What is the goal of this thing?

Fast means many things. 0-60 fast, 0-60 foot fast, 1/4 mile fast, 150 mph fast. All considered fast and totally setup differently.

TBI is great for driving. But tends to cap out around 4500(stock). You want a screamer direct is your best bet.

I would put that thing on a diet while the engine is out to get that weight closer to 3000 lbs and look at injection as a stage in the build.

If you just want to go fast, keep the carb. Its easy to deal with and will make the same power as any injection system.
If you want to make it easy to drive and get some mileage and for the engine to last longer, go injection with a wide band O2, its hard to beat the products from FiTech.
