steering cloumn

Dont know what your putting that in but maybe this may help. Im building a 1938 chevy street rod by the seat of my pant which i have never done and i used a GM mini van steering column in it as it was only about 28 inches long and worked fine for that. You can get one at the junk yard for about 50 bucks so maybe this would be a better deal for you to think about

How much does it have to be shortened?

I installed a later model column in my '72 that had the interim collapsible shaft. All I had to do was collapse the shaft by breaking the plastic pins/retainers and bolting it in. There was quite a range of length.
