I recently acquired a GM New Process A-833 Transmission. Apparently this Transmission was used in 81-87 Chevy Pick Ups and Vans. I also noticed it was used extensively by Chrysler. Here's my problem. I don't have a shifter for this transmission and was wondering if the Chrysler version would work? I see a lot of listings for that shifter, but non for the GM version.
Thanks, Zooma

Probably not.

Do you have the 81 (Aluminum case) Chevy A833 or the 82-87 (Cast iron case) Chevy A833? Is it 2wd or 4x4?

I have both versions in 2wd, and may be getting a 4x4 cast iron version today from the swap meet. Without looking I don't know if any of them have shifters still on them.

Be super careful with your transmission when you handle it. If you break the front bearing retainer, you will not be able to replace it. Both of mine were sold years ago and I have not been able to find ANY replacements.

Aluminum Case

MMerlin, I have the all aluminum case 2WD unit that is complete except the shifter. I noticed the Chrysler mounting plate is different than the GM version, looks lower and the GM version is quite higher. If all else fails, I'll fabricate the mounting plate and try to make a Hurst Shifter work.
Thanks
